Xavier finally breaks the silence and gestures for Annabelle to take a seat in one of the chairs in front of his desk. She sits down, feeling a little awkward but trying to act professional...Xavier sits down behind his desk and leans back in his chair, giving her a once-over. He's quiet for a moment, and Annabelle shifts uncomfortably in her chair...Finally, when the silence becomes unbearable, Xavier speaks up.
"So, Miss Harris," he says in a cool, clipped tone, not meeting her eyes. "You're here for the assistant position."Annabelle nods, trying not to let his cold demeanor put her off. "Yes, sir," she says, her voice steady. "I saw the job vacancy online and I'm very interested in the position."Xavier continues to look at her, his expression unreadable. He doesn't say anything for a moment, as if sizing her up. Finally, he leans forward and rests his elbows on the desk..."You're quite young," he says, his eyes finally meeting hers. "Fresh out of college, I presume?"Annabelle nods again. "Yes, sir. I graduated last month with a degree in Marketing," she says, straightening up in her chair, silently praying that she gets the job....Xavier continues to study her for a moment. "And what makes you think you're qualified for this position?" he asks, not unkindly but still in a business-like tone.
Annabelle takes a deep breath and prepares to answer."Well..." Annabelle begins, trying to gather her thoughts. "I have a strong academic background in Marketing, and I've interned at a few companies during my college years. I've also worked part-time as a Marketing assistant at a start-up company, where I gained some valuable experience. I'm organized, efficient, and quick to learn new things. And I'm very passionate about marketing."
She finishes speaking, and waits for Xavier's reaction.Xavier nods slowly, still studying her. "I see," he says finally. "Well, Miss Harris, we have quite a few applicants for this position, and we have to consider each one carefully. I'll need to review your resume and schedule you for an interview with some of the Marketing team members."
He stands up, signaling that the meeting is over. "You can wait in the waiting area while I get your resume."
"Yes sir"
