They walked in what seemed to be the opposite direction of where they’d come in, but Lyle was sure it was a different corridor. As if reading his mind, Arius told him, “There are two tunnels under this part of the city. They run north for approximately seven hundred feet and south for about three hundred, looping in the middle below the park and meeting at each end. It’s not a bad place to stay, but for the comfort factor. It keeps out the sun. It’s quiet and it’s private. As I said, we’ve done a good job of keeping the people out so far. The entire area is managed by the National Park Service. Which is just another way of saying that the Committee keeps it safe for us at the federal level, and if that is not enough to dissuade nosy parties, we take over from there.”
