Chapter 20Twenty-five minutes after Oliver left Dr. Brandt’s house, he received a call from Martin. A man wearing a black ski mask had broken into Martin’s house, attacked Martin, and then stolen the jump drive and computer. The guy had the video now, but Oliver didn’t feel that it bought Norah any safety. It was all a game and while Norah was safe that night, Oliver felt like he was still losing.
Oliver rested his head against the sofa. Ahead of him, the curtains were wide to show a view of the planes landing along the horizon. The wind blew through the willow tree branches in his backyard. They usually made Oliver feel comforted, like there was some higher power creating magic in the little moments, but tonight they reminded him of Ron.
