Ella couldn't breathe, it felt as though invisible hands were wrapped around her chest, squeezing the life out of her. The cold stone beneath her cheek was the only thing keeping her grounded. Voices echoed around her, but they sounded distant, as if she were sinking underwater.
"She's dying."
"That's what happens after a rejection."
"Someone get the healer!"
The temple erupted into chaos.
Ethan dropped to his knees beside her. "Ella!"
He gently lifted her shoulders. "Look at me."
Her eyelids fluttered, she wanted to answer him but she couldn't. Her breath became heavier, she couldn't breathe well.
"Elder Mira!" someone shouted.
"Where is Elder Mira?"
No one answered, the old healer was nowhere to be found.
