Chapter 3

959 Words
The years had passed terribly slow and Elara didn't leave the pack much and hoped every time Talon went away he didn't find his mate. Each and every time she felt like she was holding her breath till her chest burned and ached. Her mother told her each and every time she was destined to be Luna, to be beside a powerful man like Talon would be and Elara believed in her words after all what were the chances her mate would be anything important. The last trip proceeded increasingly slowly and overlapped hers and Talon’s twenty-first birthdays with bated breath she waited and hoped in his return to be alone when finally the day came his parents still didn't approve of her but as Talon got older they were less hostile and more willing to accept if this didn't turn the way they wished so they allowed her to wait for him out front of the large home. Elara’s fingers clung to her long red dress the knuckles of her fingers white from the tense pressure when they saw the large wolves bounding through the trees. Talon’s large brown wolf in front she always thought he was quite plain that her own wolf was more striking with its shimmering grey coat. His father held out a cloak for Talon to put on once he shifted. It wasn't as though Elara hadn't seen him undressed before however “Finally your back” his mother Mina smiled and pulled him into a hug as Talon held closed his cloak “We've missed you so much.” “I'm glad to be back” Talon smiled. “We have a party for your return tonight. Everyone can't wait to see you” Mina continued to gush at her son. “How was your trip?” his father inquired. He was a tall stoic man and quiet Talon was a lot like his father actually. “Good, we've settled things in the east so there is nothing to worry” Talon spoke as he adjusted the cloak over his shoulders. Elara stood back watching the exchange between Talon and his parents, he was their only child after all so they were always completely focused on him “I need to talk to you” he said which caught Elara’s attention his blue eyes were on her waiting for a reply but she simply nodded in response before letting him lead her away. ::: In Talon’s bedroom he changed while Elara sat at the edge of the bed waiting for him to return “I'm sorry we missed each other's birthday” she commented the months had passed too quickly and he had been away more than usual in his preparation to take over as Alpha of the pack. “I was away there wasn't really a way to see each other” he replied. She at least sent him happy birthday wishes though more than he extended Elara wondered if he even knew what day was her birthday. “What did you want to talk about? You've been gone for months I assume it's important then” Elara attempted to change subject sitting herself up in a more studious manner she always attempted to keep herself composed as a Luna should. “It is” Finally Talon stepped out of the bathroom dressed. He was more of a casual guy in his dress sense. Stepping closer to her Talon knelt down in front of her Elara’s eyes widened at the sudden movement especially when he reached out to take her hands in his own. She couldn't like Elara missed his touch there had been few and far between times this whole year so it was nice to have him back “We are both twenty-one now, Elara. Both without a mate still I've been preparing to take over the pack from my father and follow through with our agreement of becoming chosen mates.” His words caught her by surprise. She never expected he would actually follow through the false hope she held was always that, she wished for it but always assumed he would find a way out or find his mate a feeling that broke her heart and she hoped with every fibre of her being wouldn't be the case but now here he was kneeling in front of her finally fulfilling her dream “Really?” “Yes really, we've been together since we were teenagers. you've always been by my side, Elara” She smiled at his words before throwing her arms around his shoulders to hold him in a tight embrace “Does that mean you agree?” he questioned. “Yes of course I do” She hugged him that bit more till Talon pried her arms from around him flashing her a small smile. “We will announce it tonight at my welcome home party?” he asked. It wasn't really a question though he was simply waiting for her to confirm. “Yes,” Elara couldn't help the smile creeping across her face. “Great!” he exclaimed “You will have to start lessons with my mother in the upcoming months to prepare and by the end of the year, we will do the official ceremony” The words were very matter of fact Talon often was like that a little less romantic than Elara would like but at least he finally agreed to her terms so at that moment what more could she ask for. He would finally give her the dream she had wanted since as far back as she could remember, the role her mother had been prepping her for for years. Finally her patience seemed to be paying off.
