It was truly a comfortable bed it always was and she couldn't help but delight in the plush large king-sized mattress. Elara missed laying in the bed it was much nicer than her own and with her boyfriend Talon’s parent's constant disliking of her it was hard to spend the night so sneaking over had become a fairly common choice but it was different this time. Tomorrow was Talon’s eighteenth birthday his wolf would mature and he would find his mate which Elara was hoping was herself. Talon Reign’s was everything her mother had hoped for her the young man was kind, caring, good-looking and best of all in her mother's eyes he was a future Alpha though her mother would kill her if she knew Elara was actually in love with Talon, she had worked hard to secure a high position in their world even including a loveless mate bond and she expected the same from Elara, mate for power not love her mother's words rang throughout her mind but it was hard to stay true laying beside Talon in the large bedroom of his. It was such a boy's room really, a sleek bed with a leather headboard, it was mostly blue and grey in colour and Elara had dreamed the past year of when they would mate and she became his Luna of how the room would become theirs a combination of their lives in one space, it was a strange want but it was hers and something she commonly daydreamed about after they lay in bed and Talon fell asleep. She struggled to sleep in the silence of his room but she compromised to give him what he wanted she couldn't sleep without the television on, the lack of noise and light always unsettled her but Talon couldn't sleep with any noise so here she was once again lying awake beside him, his muscled chest rising and falling as he took in each breath. It was nearing midnight and Elara was feeling nervous as the time came closer despite their differences she had fallen for Talon and didn't want to lose him. She reached out and with one of her thin, dainty hands brushed the ash-blonde waves of hair from his face if his eyes were open she could look into his beautiful baby blues but they were under his closed lids. Glancing up to see the small clock that sat beside his bed the time ticked closer. The seconds were counting down. Ten... Nine... Eight... Seven... Six... Five... Four... Three... Two... One..... The numbers flicked over to twelve it was officially Talon’s eighteenth and nothing but dread and hurt filled Elara’s body the mate bond wasn't there... There were no sparks, nothing. Their secure relationship was now tilted on its axis and Elara was filled with panic. What was she going to do?
