Athena fumbled with her nimble fingers as she sat herself down at the dining room table awaiting her supper. The air felt tense, something which isn't normal as she and her parents get on great.
Her mother placed her plate down in front of her as her father sat at the head of the table.
They ate in silence.
"we must speak" her father spoke, his voice stern, lips tightly pressed together. Athena placed her fork down, awaiting to see what her father had to say.
"what is it father?" she asked with a soft smile, she couldn't put her finger on it but she knew something was off.
"you're getting married" he said, no expression in his voice.
Athena sat there, shocked and confused, she wasn't planning on getting married nor did she even have a partner.
"tomorrow" her father added before she could even open her mouth to speak.
"W-what?" she spluttered, eyes widening at the information which had been placed upon her shoulders. "this can't be, I don't even have a boyfriend-" Athena managed to speak a few words before being cut off.
"you don't have a say in the matter-your dress and everything else is already sorted for you" her father exclaimed.
Her mother stayed quiet.
Athena couldn't believe it. Her parents forcing her into a marriage with a man whom she had never met or knew anything about.
"I'm going to my room now" Athena announced with a weak voice, her mind trailing with thoughts. Her mother gave her a weak smile. "Are you not finishing your supper?" she asked.
She sighed. "Don't want to be too bloated for my big day" she replied, forcing a tight smile.
Athena made her way to her bedroom, this was surely a joke. She sobbed into her pillow quietly.
This was her last day of normality.
