CHAPTER 2

‘But, may I know the reason for letting the duke's daughter lead a knight brigade?’ “‘Why?’ You may ask?” Asterlayna muttered with a smirk. She was currently in the garden outside of the estate she woke up in, sipping a cup of tea. “Because Hesperia is the female lead, you idiot.” Asterlayna snickered by herself. Days have passed since the crown prince of the holy empire of Xeres crashed into the forest. After Asterlayna sent the prince back to the capital of the empire safely, she began to recall the contents of the novel she had read years ago. ‘I’m sure this is the world of ‘The golden saintess’...’ The golden saintess. It was a popular novel that Clara used to read a few years back. Not many of her classmates liked the novel for being too predictable and bland. ‘Eh…I can already guess where that novel is heading…’ ‘Romance is too overrated…’ ‘Isn’t it just the same with the other trending novels…The heroine is secretly strong…blah blah blah…’ But despite her classmates’ words, Clara still ended up reading the novel. ‘I’m glad I read it though…’ Clara, who now went with the name Asterlayna, took a deep breath. If it wasn't for her past urges to read every single historical romance ever posted on the internet, she'd meet a bloody end in this life. In the novel, two kingdoms declared war against the holy empire and since the sanctuary of divinity was located near an area that bordered the holy empire and the three northern kingdoms, the sanctuary of divinity was the first place to be attacked. The nine tailed fox's death was the signal that showed the holy empire how strong the allied kingdoms were. ‘Well…According to the novel, the allied kingdoms received help from a mysterious being…’ A being that brought light to the allied kingdoms’ dreams. ‘Without that being, the allied kingdoms wouldn't even think about raising a finger against the empire…’ “My lady, the letter of the crown prince Xanthos has arrived.” “Bring it here.” Asterlayna ordered with a blank expression. The fox-like creature, Mallo, had turned out to be the nine tailed fox's only disciple. Currently, in the forest where the nine tailed fox resided, nothing was out of the ordinary. Asterlayna took a second to look up at the clear blue sky. ‘A dim blue aurora…’ As how it was described in the novel, a darkly hued blue aurora would flash through the sky, signaling the arrival of the allied kingdoms' forces. “In two weeks I suppose…” That dim blue aurora would light up the sky in two weeks from now. “Two weeks?” Asterlayna flinched from the voice that came from behind. It was Mallo, holding a silver tray with a pure white envelope sealed with the crest of the royal family of the holy empire. “...I-I'll send you to the capital to do an errand in two weeks.” Asterlayna lied through her teeth. In two weeks the calm forest will become a war zone with swords and spears clashing against each other. In the past, Clara was sure that the holy empire failed to defend the sanctuary of divinity. Every living being perished, including Mallo and Asterlayna. But for a military force to end the life of a mythical being—it could only mean that the military force of the allied kingdoms is stronger than one would initially think. ‘I'll need to send these people to somewhere safe first…’ “...Why in two weeks?” Mallo narrowed her eyes in a dubious manner. “Ha? Are you questioning me?” Asterlayna made a scrunched up expression. It was an expression that no living being would imagine the wise nine tailed fox to make. “...” Mallo kept quiet and didn't respond. For the past few days, since the crown prince of the holy empire paid a visit,Mallo couldn't help but notice the change of atmosphere around the sanctuary and around the master of the sanctuary herself. However, she was in no place to say anything. “Master, why did you send some of the servants back to the empire?” Mallo asked, still not giving up on prying the truth out of her master. “I thought they missed their families…You know, they were born in the holy empire.” Despite the master of the sanctuary being a mythical one, the majority of the servants were still human. ‘I don't want them to eat bomb debris, duh…’ Though Asterlayna doubted that bombs exist in this world, there was still a huge possibility that the allied kingdoms would attack the sanctuary first. Protecting the innocent and powerless would also become quite a burden when a war blows up. ‘We need to get rid of the obstacles first…Then live happily.’ Clara never planned on becoming a hero of the battlefield, but since she was already in a place where war would soon break out, she had no choice but to do her utmost best to survive. Asterlayna opened the envelope containing the letter of the crown prince. “How many servants are still in the sanctuary again?” But before she unfolded the paper, Asterlayna turned her head to Mallo beside her. “...Only ten including me.” Mallo answered. “Oh…” ‘I need to send away those people too…’ “Alright. You may go.” Asterlayna's hand made a shooing gesture directed to Mallo. Mallo only took her action as a sign that her master wanted privacy in reading the letter, but before she left the premises, Mallo took one last glance at her master with a concerned expression. ‘There’s definitely something going on…’ “Great…I definitely won't die now. Bwahaha…” Asterlayna spoke and laughed to herself while reading the contents of the letter. [The daughter of duke Alaida had agreed to lead the first wave of the knights brigade that will be sent near the border of the empire and the Raveren Kingdom. The brigade will be arriving at the sanctuary of serenity in five days.] ‘But I doubt the current Hesperia will win against that mythical being…’ In the novel where the female lead was gifted with an ability that can slay the darkness, and the male lead that has the ability to amplify the ability of the female lead, winning against a mythical being would be child's play. However, by Asterlayna's calculations, the war between the continents still hasn't blown up yet, likewise the potential of the female lead. ‘I need to help her get stronger first…’
