ROWAN’S POV “You’re kidding.” I tilted my head, studying him. The light from the desk lamp threw soft shadows under his jaw. “You think I’d cheat you through?” His eyes flicked to the scanner on the table. “You already told them…” “That it’s clear?” I cut in, lowering my voice. “I haven’t confirmed it yet.” His shoulders tensed. His hands fidgeted like he didn’t know what to do with them. “Rowan…” “Relax,” I said quietly, though even to me, my voice didn’t sound calm. It came out tight, rough at the edges, strained with something I didn’t want to name. I stepped closer. Slowly, Close enough to hear his breathing falter. He backed away, but there was nowhere left to go—his back hit the desk, the soft thud of wood against bone making my pulse stutter. I knew he was hiding something
