I looked all around me as a wave of murmurs rippled throughout the auction hall.
Something’s up, said Beatrice.
I perked my ears up and listened.
“It looks like Bidder 923 still hasn’t given up yet. What’s her strategy?”
“Alpha Jake has already declared an open-ended bid. And she dares to counter? The audacity.”
“What is she doing? Is she attempting to challenge him with her own open declaration?”
“This bidding war has reached five million already? That tanzanite is hardly worth it. At this rate. It’s going to sell for five times its value.”
“I have a feeling there is more to this than meets the eye.”
“Is this really about the stone? Or is it about the people bidding?”
