I endured the following minutes, days, hours and weeks because I had no choice to do otherwise. By the time of my conversion, I was ground down to numb misery. I missed my sisters and my friends, old and new, but the principal cause of my grey unhappiness was spending my days running around after a spoiled child in a woman’s body. The fact that there was no end in sight, and I must not slow the slightest sign of discontent, only added insult to injury. The abbess and Lithuise took over from where Jack and Gudarro abruptly left off. They were pleased with my progress and happy for me to publically declare my faith. Hawise and the other ladies fussed about me in a kind and helpful manner. They helped me to dress and prepare myself for this ceremony which was making me increasingly nervous.
