CHAPTER SIX: The Return

243 Words
Sophia was the first to return. She arrived at the estate late one evening. The same garden where she had once played as a child. The same roses. The same fountain. Her father sat on a bench. Waiting. He looked exactly as though he had expected her. Tears filled her eyes. "Father, I was wrong. I made mistakes, am in debt." Jonathan opened his arms. She ran to him. He did not begin with correction. He began with love. Only after she admitted her mistake did he begin to show her where she had gone wrong. Within weeks, her life began to recover. Michael came next. Then Grace. Finally, Daniel. One evening, the entire family gathered in the garden. The sun painted the sky gold. Birds sang among the trees. The children sat around their father as they had done years before. Sophia finally asked what had troubled them all. "Why didn't you stop us?" Jonathan smiled. "Because some lessons cannot be taught." The children listened. "They must be experienced." "Then why did you keep helping us?" Michael asked. Jonathan looked around the garden. "Because you are my children." The answer was simple. Yet it carried the weight of a lifetime. Each arrived carrying different failures. Different wounds. Different regrets. But the same confession. "We should have listened." Jonathan welcomed them all. Not with anger. Not with humiliation. But with understanding. For years he had been waiting. Not for perfection. But for humility.
