Chapter 11
Tiara’s POV
“Fear?” I asked, not sure what it meant.
Nathan nodded, his face a few inches apart.
I titled my chin, staring at his mouth.
The attraction was unbelievable.
“Tiara—
“I don’t know who I’m becoming.”
“You are becoming you”, Nathan replied with a low voice.
“I have to ask this question: Who are you?” I asked, breathing heavily.
Nathan’s hand slid gently down my jaw.
I couldn’t take my eyes off him.
“Someone who’s trying hard not to kiss you right now”, Nathan whispered.
My heart raced. “Why are you trying not to kiss me?”
“Because once I start, I’ll never stop”, Nathan replied, tracing his hands on my lower lip.
I summoned courage and closed the distance.
My lips met his.
It was initially soft, but he deepened the kiss, his hands tangled in my hair.
I held the collar of his jacket.
The fear disappeared. I couldn’t think of anything but the man in front of me.
Nathan tasted warm, and for the first time, I didn’t feel alone.
He pulled away from me, leaving me breathless.
I wanted to protest, but Nathan placed my head on his chest.
He didn’t speak. He just held me.
“I know you are scared, but I want you to know that I am always here and will never leave you,” Nathan assured.
I sighed. I believed Nathan, but Jeff was dangerous.
Jeff had threatened me earlier, and I had gotten a slap when I tried to leave him.
“I don’t think this is a good idea” I blurted out.
Nathan gently pulled back and looked at me. “Why? You don’t want me?”
I wanted to tell him how much I wanted to be his, but I couldn’t.
“That’s not the case. I have a boyfriend, Nathan, and you know that,” I said, clearing my throat.
“Tiara, I don’t care about that. Jeff doesn’t deserve you,” Nathan replied
I shivered at the thought.
“I don't know what you are talking about, Nathan” I whispered
I wanted to kiss him, but I held myself together.
It was the first time I craved a man’s touch. I have never wanted Jeff to touch me in such a way.
“What will we do about how we feel towards each other?” Nathan asked, raising a brow.
I was as confused as he was.
Nathan was a good kisser.
I didn’t feel the way I did when Jeff kissed me.
Nathan was still a stranger, yet I felt attached to him.
“I should go” I blurted out
I was scared I was going to beg him to take me far away.
“Did Jeff hit you?” Nathan asked out of the blue, ignoring my statement.
I stood there in shock.
How did he know?
I realised he must have seen a scar on my face.
My hands went to my face unintentionally.
“Yes, but I don’t want any trouble”, I replied, deciding to tell the truth.
Nathan’s expression darkened, and I tried to hold him.
I shouldn’t have said anything to Nathan.
“I’ll make him pay for touching you”, Nathan swore.
I could see the anger in Nathan’s eyes.
“It wasn’t his fault, I pissed him off” I defended quickly.
Nathan shook his head
“No man should ever lay his hands on you.” He said under his breath.
Nathan was right; Jeff had no right to touch me, but there was nothing I could do about it.
I could hear the anger in his voice.
Nathan was going to pick a fight with Jeff, and I was scared.
“Nathan,” I said calmly. “I don’t want you to fight Jeff. He is dangerous; I can handle it.”
Nathan was quiet.
“Nathan?”
“Tiara—
“Let it go”, I interrupted. “Please”
Nathan cupped my cheeks and smiled.
“Okay, princess”
Princess.
I liked the name. It made me feel special.
“Thank you”, I muttered shyly.
Nathan walked me to the library, and I was feeling better.
I was comfortable. Free.
“Tell me about yourself,” I said, wanting to know more about him.
“There’s nothing to know,” Nathan replied, staring at my lips and I blushed.
My phone began to ring, interrupting our conversation, and I ignored it.
“I feel there is more to know aside from your name” I pushed
Nathan smiled and held my hands.
I pulled away gently, not because I didn’t crave his touch but because I was scared someone could see us and report to Jeff.
“Ask me anything,” Nathan said
“Okay—
Buzz. My phone rang again, interrupting me for the second time.
“You should pick up your call” Nathan advised.
I grunted and picked it up.
“I’ve been trying to reach you; I forgot my keys inside the house,” Sofia said in a hurry.
I looked at Nathan and contemplated ignoring Sofia, but I couldn’t.
Sofia was my friend, and I couldn’t lock her outside because I wanted to spend more time with Nathan.
I replied, “I’ll be on my way,” ending the call.
“You are leaving?” Nathan asked
I explained, “Yes, Sofia forgot her keys and needs to enter the house.”
Nathan nodded and was still seated.
I packed my bags slowly, hoping Nathan would say something, but he didn’t.
“I’ll be leaving now,” I said
“See you later, princess”, Nathan replied, remaining in his seat.
I wanted him to take me home, but he didn’t. I probably didn’t mean so much to him.
“Okay,” I replied and left the library.
My mind was clouded as I walked to the house.
Was I developing feelings for Nathan?
Why did I feel that way when he kissed me?
Why did I crave more?
I couldn’t tell anybody about it, including Sofia, because I feared she might judge me.
“There you are!” Sofia said happily.
I smiled as I realised she had waited outside for me.
“Don’t forget your keys again”, I warned playfully as I opened the door.
“I won’t”, Sofia replied, returning the smile.
I was exhausted and went into the room.
“Princess”, I muttered, smiling sheepishly.
It made me feel special.
For the first time in a while, I slept peacefully.
No dreams.
