Chapter 10

1097 Words
Lucy’s POV Jeff agreed to work with me, and that was all I needed. It was obvious Jeff didn’t love Tiara, and he just wanted to keep her, which was none of my concern. “ you keep Tiara in check, and I’ll handle Nathan”, I assured. Jeff looked at me in disbelief, and it stung. “If you could handle Nathan, why come to me?” Jeff asked Jeff was more brilliant than I expected. “I can handle Nathan, and I only came to you so we can help each other. Nathan is attracted to your girlfriend, and it is only a matter of time before you lose her,” I explained Jeff tapped the glass, and for a moment, I thought he would throw it against the wall. “If I scratch your back, you’ll have to scratch mine,” Jeff said with a smile. I nodded. Whatever that meant, I would have to find out along the way. “Good,” Jeff said as he got up. I gulped down my remaining drink and didn’t say a word. Jeff took the initiative and walked out of the bar. I needed to get laid. My body was whole, and I wanted Nathan so badly. I hadn’t let a man touch me in what felt like forever, and I was tired of using my toys. “Hey sexy”, I approached one of the men at the bar. ————————————————— I watched from a distance as Tiara tucked her hair behind her ears as if trying to distance herself. Something was off about Tiara. She didn’t belong. Pathetic. Miserable.Sad Tiara was not doing well, and at times, she looked pitiful. I wondered how she had Nathan’s attention. Nathan. My fingers curled tighter around my bottle, and I could feel a sting. I should have stopped it at the party when I saw Nathan staring at Tiara like she was the centre of gravity, but Jeff butted in, and I thought he had it under control. Nathan had always been my gravity from the moment I saw him across the lecture hall, tall, calm and untouchable, just the way I liked my men. He would be mine. He had to be mine. It was the first time I would be experiencing difficulty getting a man. Nathan was stubborn and hadn’t bulged to any of my seductions. I was grateful he spoke to me and was trying to build a connection. Everything was going according to plan until he started noticing Tiara. I was going to do what any rational girl would do. I’d correct it. It was the right thing to do. Jeff was the bait. He was easygoing, insecure, and territorial, so I didn’t need to push too hard. Suddenly, I noticed a stranger checking Tiara out and frowned. It didn’t look appropriate. I didn’t seem to understand how she attracted men with less effort. Then it struck me—the perfect plan. I did some searching and was able to get the number of the stranger checking Tiara out. A harmless text was all I needed. I texted the stranger from an anonymous number. I didn’t want anything pointing at me. “A girl would be alone tonight near the back alley. She likes surprises.” All it took was a little suggestion. Men like that didn’t need complete sentences, and I hoped he would do something to Tiara. I found out Tiara had resumed work accidentally and that she always took the back path to Jeff’s. Jeff had said he would demand to see Tiara that day, which was perfect. The universe was working with me. I smiled to myself and did a happy dance around the house. The plan was simple: Tiara would be shaken, and Jeff would “comfort” her. Tiara would realise Jeff was the only man she needed, and Nathan would have to back off. Everything would go back to the way it used to be. Only it didn’t work. Tiara looked shaken the next day but seemed stronger. Angrier. Whatever had happened overnight wasn’t what I had hoped. She avoided everyone, including Jeff, but Nathan didn’t back off. His eyes were glued to Tiara all day, and my stomach twisted in anger. Nathan should be looking at only me. I bit my lip so hard it bled. I needed to fix it. My eyes were on Jeff, and he took the initiative. I saw him follow Tiara, and I smiled. I blocked Nathan’s view as I knew he would run after them. “Nathan”, I called in a sweet voice but didn’t get a response. I needed an excuse and tried bringing up a party. Nathan ignored me and dismissed me like I was nothing. It wasn’t fair. A tear dropped from my eye, and I wiped it off before anyone would notice. Nobody could see me as weak. I waited for a while and looked around for Jeff and Tiara. I almost walked in on Jeff, hitting Tiara. “Perfect”, I whispered and behind a tree A smile spread through my lips as I saw the scene. Tears dropped from Tiara’s eyes, and it made me happy. I was satisfied with the outcome. I decided to go home; if Tiara was smart enough, it would stop her from talking to Nathan. Nathan was slipping away because of her. The girl who barely spoke. The one who flinched every time someone raised their voice. I had worked so hard. I had a perfect smile and wore the prettiest dress. What did Tiara have? That night, I stood before my mirror, wiping off my mascara with harsh strokes. “Tiara doesn’t deserve you!” I yelled at my reflection. “I deserve you!” I sobbed, and my hatred grew. A text came in, and I cleaned my eyes. “You set me up! You told me she was going to be alone! I’ll find you!” The stranger sent a text to the anonymous number. I froze. That meant someone had seen him. Fuck. I quickly deleted the messages. Jeff didn’t seem to have saved Tiara from anything earlier, and my heart raced. Could it be Nathan? I quickly discarded the number. Nathan couldn’t find out I had a hand in it. Something was off. There was something about Tiara that I was missing out. Tiara had a secret, and I was determined to expose it.
