“Genevieve.”
Eve ignored the voice of Noah calling on her from behind as she made her way to the parking lot. Right before she could get into her car, his strong hand grabbed her arms and pulled her backward.
“What do you want, Noah?” She snapped, turning to glare at him.
“We have to talk.”
“About what? You want to question why I did that inside and on her birthday too? Look, I have nothing to say. I need to leave.”
“I'm not going to talk about that.”
She snatched her arm from his hold and looked away, her hands wrapped together on her chest.
“Five minutes. I’m a busy person.”
He swiped his tongue across his lips, dipped his hands into his pocket, and cleared his throat. He took a deep breath and finally, he muttered.
“I'm sorry, Genevieve.”
Her eyes widened
“What?”
“I said I'm sorry.”
Noah looked away. f**k, it felt like his first time apologizing for something. The words sounded too foreign to his ears. “I'm sorry for what happened a year ago,” he continued. “For not believing you and for…. God damn it, I'm sorry for everything, Eve. Truly.”
She gaped at him in disbelief, trying to register his words in her head. After a while of gazing at him, she let out a low chuckle.
“What’s funny?”
“Oh, nothing. I'm just surprised that the almighty Noah Hank is apologizing. To me. It’s surprising. But it's okay, Noah. I'm not angry at you.”
“You are. Look, I didn’t say that for you to forgive me. What I did was repulsive. I’m use letting you know that I’m sorry. Besides, I can see how angry you are.”
“No, you can't. If you're seeing something, it's definitely not anger.”
“Then, thirst?”
“Five minutes is up. I'll leave now.”
Before he could say anything else, Genevieve gave him a parting glacé and smile before getting into the backseat of the car, beside Ella.
“Drive,” she ordered the middle-aged man at the front seat. Once their car departed from the environment, Ella c****d her body to the side so that she sat face-to-face with Eve.
“That was hilarious, Eve. What you did in there? You’re so cool.” She made a dramatic squealed and lightly hit Eve’s shoulder with her fist severally.
“Right?”
“I was a bit scared. What if things had gone wrong? It was just the both of us on our side.”
“I told you, Ella, I don't miss my catch. There's no ‘what if.’ Besides, I had everything prepared, a lot of evidence. Let’s see what Melissa will do now.”
“She must be bawling her eyes out already. Noah broke up.”
Ella returned to her position in the car and fished her iPad out of her bag. She scrolled through the news article of the day and a smile stretched on her lips when she realized that the news of Melissa’s birthday was already in the top one trending. Everyone already turned their backs on Melissa and her fans? They’d moved over to Eve’s side. Melissa became tagged as the green snake in the clear green grass.
“Oh my,” Ella exclaimed as she scrolled further through the news article and her eyes fell on a headline that caught her attention.
Eve frowned. “What’s wrong?”
“Eve.” Ella’s eyes were wide, almost popping off their sockets. “This.”
“What?”
She passed the iPad to Eve and watched as Eve’s expression changed as she scrolled through the headline.
“What the hell is this?”
“I'm shocked too. This…”
“Embezzlement? Hilarious.” They were claiming that the daughter of the Gray family embezzled some money and the company was gradually failing leading to bankruptcy. Eve tapped her foot on the floor. It was a complete lie. The poster got to be crazy for cooking up something like that.
What would her sick father think now, Eve thought.
“What are we going to do now?” Ella blinked in confusion.
“I don’t know. I’m as confused as you are. Father would be pissed.”
“I understand.”
“Turn the car!”
*****
Two hours later, Ell and Eve slumped on a couch in exhaustion, their microphones slipping into the floor of the red-lit Karaoke room that they’d arrived in a while ago.
“We should do this more often, Ella,” Eve suggested, her breaths ragged and fast.
“Right? I told you. This was so much fun.” Ella sat up on the couch with her hair falling all over her head like a bird's nest. She c****d her head to the side to stare at Eve. “We should leave so we don't pay two hundred for another hour.”
“That’s true.”
They both rose from the couch while grabbing their bags. They had decided to spend their evening having fun and celebrating their success instead of getting angry about the fake news that had circulated everywhere. Perhaps, solving the new problem was a work for another day.
“Where do we go next?”
“Perhaps a rage room?” Ella suggested.
“What is that.”
“A room where you can break whatever s**t you like, pouring out your anger on them. I’ve been to a rage room thrice this yeah.”
“Three times?” Eve couldn’t help the laughter that broke out from her lips. “You’re going through more hell than I am?”
“Girl, you can’t imagine.”
Their laughter filled the hallway as Ella led them to the rage room in the same building. “You’re going to enjoy this.”
After paying a few dollars and putting on protective gear, both girls stepped into the rage room.
“This place is f*****g big,” Eve's mouth fell open, her eyes scanning the entire room.
“The bigger, the better. Think of anything or anyone that hurt you the most and pretend it's them. Hit with your whole strength. Trust me, you will feel good afterward. I'll show you how.”
Ella gripped the smashing stick and immediately started hitting a wooden small chair in full force until it shattered into pieces. Seeing that, Eve didn't need any other explanation as she held the smashing stick and began smashing.
She snatched the glass cups on the table and moved to the TV which she hit without restraint. Noah! Her mind flashed back to Noah and their marriage. How he’d refused to believe her and ended up chasing her out of his home.
“Bastard, f*****g bastard,” she yelled as she kept hitting the television until it fell and shattered into pieces on the floor. As if that was not enough, she walked to where a glass table was in a go, she smashed it, ignoring the sound it made as it shattered.
She thought back to the years she stayed in his house and how he’d ignored her existence. Her hits became even more aggressive when she broke another TV.
Eve paused when she heard Ella scream. She pushed the strands of hair that had slipped from her tight ponytail backward and swiveled around, her eyes on Ella.
“You won't love me, huh?” Ella yelled and she again smashed the wooden table before her/ “What? I'm not beautiful enough? Right! That's why I'll kill you,” she continued.
Eve scoffed. “I thought I had a bigger problem.” Ella seemed to be going through worse.
