Melissa’s Birthday

1028 Words
They say that the quest for revenge is even more dangerous than death itself and Eve couldn’t agree more. It was the reason she’d been walking around the clothes section in a mall in search of the perfect dress to match her next big execution. “This?” Ella handed a black and white shiny dress to her. She gazed at it once and shook her head. “No. Not expensive enough.” It wasn’t the type of dress that would steal a show. Moreover, she hated the color. Black and white reminded her of someone’s favorite color. “Right? I thought as much. You have to look your best on that day.” “Hmm. We have our biggest execution. Check this.” She showed Ella a blue tux gown that stopped by the ankle. “Wow. You should take this.” “I will. Come, let’s also go this way. We’ll see more clothes for us.” The two girls made their way to the other side of the mall where more expensive clothes were. Just as they began their search for good clothes, they heard some voices behind them. “Mom, this will look so good on you. Try it on.” “Isn’t it too revealing? I’m not so young as you. This doesn't fit me.” “Who said so, Mom? It’s my birthday, you should dress your best.” Eve raised a brow as she realized who it was. Who else would it be if not Melissa and her overbearing mother-in-law? “This would feel like I’m stealing the show. It’s your birthday, hon.” “Doesn’t matter, Mum. Take this for me, okay?” “Fine.” “Miss Gray?” Melissa finally realized their presence. Eve slowly walked towards the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law duo and stood before them. “I see you’re shopping for the birthday party, Melissa.” “Of course I am. I mean, it’s my big day, right?” “Right.” “What’s the fuss about? This dress will look stunning on you, Mrs Hank.” “Thanks for your opinion but we don’t need it. You stated on the news that your company is canceling the deal with ours. You know how much this meant to Noah.” “Oh right? I mean, we’re still business partners aside from the deal. It’s just a deal, nothing big.” Melissa stepped forward, her hands wrapped around her chest.” “Nothing big? Did you call that little? f**k,” she cursed. “We had our hope on that deal. The whole of the Hank family wanted and hoped that the deal would commence and everyone would benefit from it. I’m done being nice to you. I know you did all of these. I’m sure that you’re the one who tried to bring Hank's family name down. Thank goodness my fiance is great and put everything back in place.” She’d only pretend to be nice because of the important deal with Noah and the Grays. But now that the deal was no more, she could finally speak to Eve however she wanted. The deal meant a lot to Noah and she didn’t want to ruin it for him. “Melissa finally shows her true nature?” Eve laughed. “You’re making me seem so bad. However, Darling. I’m not like that. You see, the Hank family is my business partner and every partner means a lot to me. The deal just happened to get canceled.” “Whatever. I don’t care. I just wish that you don’t come to my party.” “Happy birthday in advance by the way. But to burst your bubble, I’m shopping for your birthday already. Also, thanks for returning to your normal self. I was getting bored.” “Mother, look how rude she is speaking to me.” She gestured to her mother-in-law.” “Considering that she put me in this state, she should be apologetic and remorseful but see how confident she is. I promise you, Eve, this isn’t going to last long.” “Is that a threat?” “Take it however you want to take it but. It’s your time. Enjoy it. Anyway, thanks for honoring the invitation to my birthday party. It would be splendid watching your face fall when Noah announces our wedding date,” she suddenly hit her mouth with her hand slightly. “Ow. Why did I say that now? It must have come unexpectedly. I’m sorry that I hurt your feelings.” Eve gritted her teeth but she managed to remain restrained. “You wish,” she spat. She turned and grabbed Ella’s wrist, leading them both out of the session that they were. Once they were out, she let go of Ella’s wrist and grunted. “See how rude they were to me?” She continued. “They’re so f*****g confident.” “I can’t wait for you to put them in their places.” “Let’s just forget about them. I found the dress that I like.” She raised a green dress to Ella’s face. “Splendid. This looks so good. The best so far.” “Well, apart from putting that girl in her place on her birthday, I also plan on outshining her. I’m going to steal the spotlights and leave her begging for them at her party. I told you, Ella. We’ll move when the time is right. And the time is now.” As they made their way out of the mall after buying the things that they both needed for the birthday party, they again sighted the mother and daughter duo but this time, they didn’t let them see them and only made their way to the car pack. Just as they got into their car, Eve asked. “Did you capture that, Ella?” “I did, of course. I filmed the evidence that we needed to bring her down. We have our strongest piece of evidence, I guess.” “You’ll have a raise for this.” Ella squealed. “I should become a paparazzi for you then.”
