A knock startles me, making my book slip from my hands and land with a soft thud on the floor.
Today’s a rest day—I called in sick, blaming my aching back, even though I’m barely showing. Maybe it’s the pregnancy, or maybe I’m just lazy. Either way, I saw an excuse not to go to work, and I took it.
Besides, I needed the peace and quiet to brainstorm strategies for the business. If I don’t get things moving soon, I’ll be too far along to start. And once the baby comes, I doubt I’ll have the time or energy. I feel like I'd get tired and give up if I wait that long. Plus, Levi might not still be around to support me once our deal ends.
