CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN RISPAN Genevané and Gaetan followed silently as Kiarash led the way. Bijoux followed along as well, and it was comforting to know she was there. Kiarash took us down a dead-end alley between some buildings that weren’t in very good condition. There was a chimney on one that had collapsed at the top. He went to what would have been the outside of the fireplace and pushed first on one brick on the left and then another on the right. The whole back of the firebox swung up to reveal steps going down. He ushered us in and then closed the entrance behind us. Gaetan had a little bit of trouble in the tight space, but once we were below ground level it opened up into a larger tunnel. He still had to watch his head, though. “How many of those are there?” I asked Kiarash.
