Chapter 4

635 Words
Jessie and her were standing around the coffee maker the next morning at work.   “Tell me again.”  Jessie said. “You think you met someone worth dating at this?”   She rolled her eyes.  “Ok Ok, you were right, getting out of our routine and trying something new can sometimes be a good thing.  I am glad you suggested it.  There.  Happy?” “Oh no, I want a dozen donuts delivered to my desk with a huge thank you bouquet, with all the moaning and griping you did up to the event, I’m going to gloat about this for awhile.”  She grinned.   “Oh come ON, I don’t even have a date yet!  He hasn’t texted and he may never text.  You aren’t so successful yet Missy!”  Suddenly she felt her phone vibrating in her pocket.  She valiantly tried to ignore it, but Jessie must have heard it.  “Was that a text?  Perhaps from a young handsome stud you met at a speed dating event last night?”  “What’s this about a speed dating event last night?” Terrell walked into the lunchroom with a curious look in his eye.  “Did you try speed dating?  God sometimes I’m just so glad Annie married me so I don’t have to worry about this stuff.”   “We did!” Jessie crowed, “and she may have met a handsome man to date!  But she’s holding her cards to her chest and won’t tell me much about it.” “You both went? Wow, how did you two manage to separate long enough to talk to other people?” “Oh you!  We know how to meet other people!  We’re only work wives here and that’s because everyone else was already taken.” Jessie laughed  Terrell snorted.  “I don’t have a work wife.”   “Yes you do!  It’s Nancy!  She brings you muffins and coffee cakes all the time.” “That’s my work wife?”  He shrugs “I’ll take it.  But maybe that’s why Annie keeps telling me not to piss off Nancy, she sure likes her banana bread.”  Jessie rolls her eyes.  “Sometimes you are the most clueless person on the planet.  Yes, that's your work wife.”  While they bickered, she checked her phone.  “A dark horse? How fitting.  Jason here, I was wondering if you wanted to meet for coffee or dinner this Friday, would you be up for that?”  “Well I had to think of something witty for you to remember me by.  Nika Dark Horse seemed fitting and yes I would love to.  When and where were you thinking?” “Do you want to go to the local art gallery?  That will give us some conversation starters and I know they have a coffeehouse attached.  We can grab some brew and wander around.  Or wander around and grab a brew.  I’m not sure if drinks are allowed in the gallery, come to think of it, but they have a coffeehouse in the gallery. You can clearly tell I am out of my element.” “LOL.  Sure let's go and see what it’s all about.  I’m sure it will be a great time.”  She looked up from her phone with a little smile on her face to see Jessie and Terrell staring intensely at her.   “Uhhhhhm”  she smiled weakly “so I have a date?”  Jessie lunged forwards and grabbed me by the shoulders.   “Deets! NOW!” We’re just meeting for a coffee at the art gallery, we will look at some exhibits and get to know each other.  No biggie.” “Ooohhhhhh” Jessie and Terrell said simultaneously. “The art gallery….for the exhibits.”  “Oh come on you two.  Quit being over dramatic.  Anyways I have to get back to my desk, that report I’m working on has to be submitted by 4 pm and it’s already 3:15.  She walked away, gripping her phone tightly with a grin on her face.  The word GOALLLLLLL reverberating in her head.
