Chapter 6:The Forced Return

"You’re not taking them," I said, my voice shaking with a rage that threatened to shift my wolf right there in the living room. "This is a human city, Kaden. There are laws here. You can’t just walk in and claim people like property." Kaden’s eyes darkened, that silver storm swirling in his irises. He took a step toward me, his presence so large it seemed to swallow the air in the small hallway. "Laws, Elara? You think a piece of human paper will stop me from claiming my blood? I am the Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack. By the laws of our kind, these children are the future of my line. They belong in the territory, learning to hunt, learning to lead, not playing with plastic blocks in a concrete cage." "They are five!" I screamed, the sound echoing off the walls. "They don't need to lead. They need to be kids! They need to be safe from people like you!" Kaden’s jaw tightened. He looked toward the bedroom door where the twins were hiding. "I’ve already had my lawyers look into Sterling & Co. It would take me exactly one phone call to buy that firm and have you fired. It would take me another to have this building condemned. I can strip you of this 'perfect' life before you even finish your next breath." My heart dropped. The Urban world I had built was made of glass, and Kaden was a sledgehammer. He wasn't just threatening my safety; he was threatening the independence I had bled for. "You wouldn't," I whispered, though I knew the answer. "Try me," he growled. "Or... you can come back. Not as a prisoner. As the mother of my heirs. I’ll give you the North Manor it’s private, on the edge of the territory. You can keep your job; I’ll have a driver take you to the city whenever you have meetings. But my children will grow up knowing their father. And they will grow up in the woods, where they belong." It was a gilded cage. He was offering me everything I had worked for, but it came with the one thing I couldn't stand: Him. "I need to pack," I said, my voice hollow. I was looking for a way out, but every exit was blocked by his shadow. "You have twenty minutes. My men are already in the lobby." The drive back to the Blood Moon territory was a blur of dark trees and silent, suffocating tension. The twins were strapped into the back of Kaden’s armored SUV. Leo was pressed against the window, fascinated by the way the city lights faded into the deep, ancient shadows of the forest. Lyra, however, sat perfectly still, her eyes locked on the back of Kaden’s head. She didn't trust him. My girl was smart. As we crossed the Silver Stream, the very place where I had almost died five years ago—my wolf, Maya, let out a mournful howl in my mind. We were back in the place of our Tragedy. We didn't go to the main Pack House. Instead, Kaden drove to a massive, modern estate shielded by ancient oaks. "This is the North Manor," Kaden said as he opened my door. "It’s yours. It’s private, and it’s guarded. You’ll have everything you need." I stepped out, the smell of damp earth and pine hitting me like a physical blow. It smelled like the home I had lost. It smelled like the pain I had fled. "Kaden! You're back!" The voice was like nails on a chalkboard. I turned, and my blood turned to liquid fire. Standing on the porch was Sarah. My sister. The woman who had stood by and laughed while Kaden rejected me. She was dressed in expensive silks, her hair perfectly coiffed, looking every bit the "Luna" she had stolen from me. But when her eyes landed on me, her fake smile shattered. And when she saw the two children climbing out of the back seat children who looked exactly like the man she was supposed to marry, her face went pale with a murderous shock. "Elara?" she hissed, her voice trembling. "What is she doing here? And whose... whose bastards are those?" The word "bastards" snapped the last thread of my control. I didn't care about the Alpha presence. I didn't care about the laws. I walked up the porch steps, my heels clicking with a lethal, professional intent. "They are the Miller heirs, Sarah," I said, my voice dropping into a growl that sounded more wolf than human. "And if you ever call them that again, I’ll show you exactly why I’m the one who survived the Silver Stream." Kaden stepped between us, but his eyes weren't on Sarah. They were on me filled with a dark, twisted kind of pride. He liked the fire. He liked the Counterattack. "Sarah, go back to the Pack House," Kaden commanded, his voice cold. "Elara is staying here. With my children." "Your children?!" Sarah shrieked. "Kaden, you can't be serious! She's an Omega! She's nothing!" "She is the mother of the future Alphas," Kaden snapped, his aura flaring so brightly that even Sarah flinched. "And if you ever forget that, you’ll find yourself on the other side of the border. Now, leave. Before I lose my patience." As Sarah stumbled away, her eyes met mine one last time. It wasn't just anger in her gaze. It was a promise of war. I looked at Kaden, who was watching his children explore the foyer of the manor. I realized then that being back wasn't the end of my journey. It was the beginning of a much more dangerous game. I was in the heart of the wolf’s den, and I was the only thing standing between my children and the vipers of the Blood Moon Pack.
