Chapter 2

954 Words
I sprung out of bed as soon as I saw the sun start to come up. I was like a child on Christmas. Today was my day. I quickly through on some leggings, sports bra and a cut off shirt. I could feel all my energy and knew that if I didn’t burn some of it off, I would probably get myself into some trouble later. I ran down the stairs two at a time, anxious to run before the whole house was bustling for the final preparations. I started my music and began my run east, towards the guest houses that the other packs’ high-ranking members would be staying for the weekend. It was only 5:30am so I didn’t really expect to see anyone outside yet. As I turned the corner onto the road holding the guest houses, cars were in front of 6 of the 7 houses.  I ran past the first house designated for Full Moon pack, followed by the houses for New Moon, Crescent Moon, Blue Moon, Eclipse, Full Moon, Snow Moon, and the last one, the Timber pack. The last house had no cars. My father said that they had said they hadn’t gone to a ceremony in over 20 years and I had never met anyone other than the alpha from Timber. The Timber pack reigned the entire Northeast. The pack was thousands strong, spanning several states. They didn’t live in a designated area, but were spread out to live as they please within their territory. My father told me how they had a capital were a large amount lived in the forests of Maine. I wondered how strong of an alpha they must have to be able to bond with wolves that lived hundreds of miles away. Our pack was not small, but our numbers hardly broke a thousand. I wasn’t surprised that they hadn’t come. My father said that the rest of the packs did not necessarily get along with the Timber pack. He never went into detail, and what he did willingly say was in a clipped tone so I never asked for more information. When I got back to the pack house, it was 6:15am. No one except the cooks had gotten up yet so I went upstairs to shower myself and get into clothes suitable for helping get ready. When I came downstairs again, at least 60 omegas were putting out decorations for the afternoon’ events. I headed into the dining room to make myself a plate of food from the buffet that had been set up for anyone who would be helping this morning. I found my mother and father and set my plate down next to them. My father was reading through a newspaper as my mother went through last minute details with the event coordinator. “Happy birthday, moon lily,” my father grinned at me as I sat. I smiled back at him as I shoved a forkful of food into my mouth. My mother finished up her conversation with the event coordinator and then turned her attention to me.  “Everyone arrived last night, Addy, and since they were on time, you need to make sure you are on time for them as well. I want you to head to the parlor to get your hair and makeup done noon. That means eat early. And I mean it. I don’t want you to eat while they are trying to do your hair and makeup again. Stevani was livid last did you pulled that. Your guests will be arriving here at 3 and they are here for you so you need to be here to greet every single one of them...” She kept rambling on but I just ended up tuning her out. Everyone always focuses on my dad because he’s the male alpha but in my opinion, my mom was running 90% of things. He only ever stepped in as an enforcer it seemed. She was definitely a strong women but man, I wish she could just relax for two minutes before planning my whole day for me. “Addy! Were you even listening?” My mother exasperates. My dad lifts an eyebrow from his newspaper, looking as me. “Mhmm, be ready by 3, don’t make people wait, moon ceremony at sunset. It’ll be fine, mom.” She doesn’t look convinced but I just shrug at her as I get up. I head outside to see what I can help with. It’s a beautiful day and the sun is shining. Could things get any more perfect?   Jax’s POV My eyes open as the plane lands on the tarmac. My nerves have finally settled after I spent the whole flight mentally preparing myself for tonight. I wait for the plane’s taxi to come to stop then stand up and head to the stairs that exit my private jet. “Alpha, should we call ahead to confirm to the pack we are coming?” my driver asks me as I climb into the car waiting for my beta and me. “No. They’ll find out when we get there in an hour.” I smirk thinking of what the other packs will do when they see that I, Jax Knight, have taken over alpha of the Timber pack. My father stepped down a little over 2 years ago when I turn 24, and now that my leadership has been established, it was time to make the other packs aware of who they were dealing with.
