Chapter 12

Delilah ran through the forest most of the night because the moon lit up the forest to see, and it kept her from being too cold. She stopped when she needed a break, and would just listen to the sound of the forest just in case she heard the sound of paws. Her brother warned her about the rogues hiding in the forest. She was pretty sure she got turned around at some point in the night when she heard howling, and she ran away from it. Whatever tried to follow her eventually gave up, but by that point she already didn't know where she was, and she wasn't going to go back. She finally stopped once the sun began to rise, and she found some weird tree that had no snow beneath it, and instead of leaves had some sort of little needles. She was able to crawl inside the tree to find almost like a little shelter hidden away. She opened the bag her brother had given her, downed the rest of one of the water bottles, and realized she was down to her last full bottle of water. She might need to find a stream or something to fill them. She was surprised to find a bag of dried fruits, and she eagerly ate some of it. She was finally feeling the cold in her legs, and tried to stretch her sweater to cover them for at least a bit as she leaned against the tree. She knew she should probably get up, and keep running, but she was tired. Delilah couldn't help but close her eyes for a few minutes. She really did need the rest, and she was really starting to feel the cold. At least it wasn't snowing, or was windy. It was at least a little warm under the tree, and it almost felt like she was locked in her room with no heat. She didn't know how long she lay for, but was surprised when she started to wake up that she was nice and warm, and as she tilted her head she felt fur brush against her face. Her eyes opened, confused about why she would feel fur, when she saw a creature lying by her feet. It was a beautiful black and orange creature, and as she looked over it she realized its tail was covering her, but as she studied the tail she saw it wasn't just one, it looked like several. She watched as its eyes slowly opened to look at her, and it had beautiful pale orange eyes. Delilah couldn't help but smile at it, and watched its tails unwrapped from her to show five beautiful tails. She slipped her arms out of her sweater, and reached a hand out cautiously to pet it. The creature tilted its head at her, before leaning into her hand and enjoying the pet. She pulled her hand away as she spoke in fae. "Thank you so much." She watched the creature tilt its head to the side before it suddenly shifted into a woman with long orange hair, and bright blue eyes. She was very pretty, and she watched her hold a hand out to her. "Hello, my name is Lydia. I found you while out for a run. Can you understand me?" She tilted her head, listening to her, and nodded. "A little." Lydia's eyes widened before she nodded. "Your language sounds familiar, can I ask what you are?" She bit her lip debating about telling her, but she didn't seem like she would attack her. She also kept her from freezing while she was sleeping. "Faerie." She watched her eyes widen with excitement. "Oh! That explains why we actually have a few faeries in our pack.I am a Kitsune, which is a type of fox. I take it you are lost?" She nodded her head. "Oh you poor thing lost in this freezing cold, and it's supposed to storm tonight. Why don't you come back to my den? Well, it's actually called a pack now, but we still sometimes call it a den." She shook her head. "Pack not safe." She watched her tilt her head, frowning at her. "No no my pack is safe I promise. Were you in a pack that wasn't?" Her eyes suddenly widened as Lydia looked over her, and frowned. "Are you one of the faeries that were taken? Have you been in a pack this entire time?" Delilah couldn't help but wrap her arms around herself, and nodded. "Alpha took me." She watched Lydia tilt her head. "Did he have a name?" She nodded. "Alpha." Lydia shook her head. "No, that would have been his title, but he should have had a name. Like I am Gamma, but my name is Lydia." She shook her head. "No names. Not cold?" She couldn't help but point out that this girl was currently naked sitting across from her, and watched her shake her head. "No, I am warm-blooded, and Kitsunes don't get cold easily. Please come back to my den with me. We have lots of different faerie foods for you to eat, and our doctor is an Earth Faerie. You can let him heal you, and tell him what happened to you. I promise you will be safe. My Alpha is not like your Alpha. You aren't the first faerie my Alpha has found, and helped. We actually have about six now in our den." Delilah's eyes couldn't help but widen at the prospect of faerie food. "Honeycake?" Lydia giggled softly. "All the honeycake you can eat, I promise. It's even made by the faeries, and we have different kinds of your fruit too. Doctor Lock grows everything in the garden." She couldn't help but bite her lip. "Trick?" She saw Lydia tilt her head, and shook her head. "I promise it's not a trick. If you come to my den, and you don't like it. I promise I will bring you right back here. We are not like whoever took you, and you are free now. If you want to go home to the faerie realm, Alpha Raz will have you personally escorted to Queen Rei, or Queen Ruby herself." Her eyes widened. "Queen Ruby?" She watched Lydia nod. "I've met her when she escorted Lock to our pack when he said he wanted to learn our ways of healing, and being a doctor." She looked out at the forest, seeing it was starting to get dark, and she would most likely freeze if she stayed there all night by herself with nothing to keep her warm. She looked back at Lydia, and didn't detect that she was lying about helping her. If she wanted to hurt her or kidnap her, she could just done it while she slept. "I'll go." Lydia's eyes brightened as she clapped, and stood up. "Climb on my back it would be the fastest way to the den. I'll wrap you in my tails so you don't get cold." She watched her shift into her kitsune. Lydia grabbed her bag with her mouth, and she crawled out from under the tree. She followed her, and got onto her back as Lydia wrapped her up in her tails. She couldn't help but snuggle into them, and close her eyes as she started running through the forest toward what she assumed was her den or pack.
