THE SILENT OMEGA
Chapter 6 — The Voice in the Dark
Lyra collapsed to her knees.
Pain tore through her chest like claws digging beneath her ribs. The silver markings along her arm glowed brighter with every shaky breath she took.
Kael reached her instantly.
“Lyra.”
She grabbed his sleeve tightly as another wave of pain hit her.
The moment their skin touched—
the strange energy between them surged violently.
Kael sucked in a sharp breath.
Images flashed through his mind rapidly.
A silver wolf running beneath moonlight.
Ancient ruins hidden deep in the mountains.
Lyra standing in blood with glowing silver eyes.
Then—
death.
So much death.
Kael pulled back slightly, breathing hard.
“What the hell was that?”
Lyra trembled violently.
The female voice returned inside her head.
The bond awakens through pain.
Her eyes widened.
Who are you?
Silence.
Then softly—
I am what remains.
The chamber suddenly grew colder.
Kael noticed immediately.
His body shifted instinctively into defense mode.
“Someone’s here.”
Lyra looked around anxiously.
The room was empty.
But the shadows near the far wall suddenly moved unnaturally.
Silver mist gathered slowly in the darkness.
Kael stepped protectively in front of Lyra.
His claws partially extended.
“Show yourself.”
The mist began taking shape.
A woman appeared slowly from the silver haze.
Long white hair.
Glowing silver eyes.
Ancient robes marked with moon symbols.
She looked almost transparent.
Not fully alive.
Lyra froze.
The woman looked directly at her.
“My child.”
Kael’s entire body tensed.
“A spirit?”
The woman ignored him completely.
Sadness filled her silver eyes as she stared at Lyra.
“You awakened too soon.”
Lyra’s pulse quickened.
The woman stepped closer.
“You carry the last bloodline of the Moon Healers.”
Kael’s expression hardened. “Who are you?”
Finally, the spirit turned toward him.
“The guardian of what your world tried to destroy.”
Power rolled through the chamber suddenly.
Ancient.
Heavy.
Terrifying.
Even Kael felt the pressure.
The spirit looked back at Lyra.
“The Crimson Fang will never stop hunting you now.”
Lyra slowly stood despite her shaking legs.
Questions burned inside her mind.
The spirit seemed to understand immediately.
“Yes,” she whispered softly. “Your mother was one of us.”
Lyra’s breath caught.
Her mother.
The spirit raised one glowing hand gently.
“You lost your voice the night she died.”
Pain stabbed through Lyra’s chest again.
Memories flickered violently—
Running through snow.
Blood everywhere.
Her mother kneeling before her.
Never speak.
The spirit’s expression filled with grief.
“She sealed your voice herself.”
Kael frowned sharply. “Why?”
“Because her daughter possessed power strong enough to destroy kingdoms.”
Silence crashed through the chamber.
Lyra stared at the spirit in horror.
Destroy?
No.
That couldn’t be true.
The spirit approached her carefully.
“Moon Healers were not created only to heal,” she said softly. “They were created to maintain balance.”
Silver energy curled faintly around her fingers.
“When balance breaks…” her voice darkened slightly, “…we become weapons.”
Kael’s jaw tightened.
“That’s why the Crimson Fang wants her.”
“Yes.”
The spirit looked directly into Kael’s eyes now.
“And that is why you must protect her.”
Something dangerous flickered across Kael’s expression.
“I already intend to.”
The spirit studied him silently for several seconds.
Then she smiled faintly.
“The mate bond grows stronger than I expected.”
Lyra froze.
Kael’s eyes darkened instantly.
Mate bond.
The words echoed through the room heavily.
Lyra stared at him in confusion.
Kael looked away first.
That alone told her enough.
The spirit’s silver gaze softened.
“You feel it already, don’t you?”
Lyra’s heartbeat quickened painfully.
The heat.
The connection.
The strange emotions whenever he touched her.
It all suddenly made sense.
Kael spoke coldly.
“She’s my student.”
“Yet still your mate,” the spirit replied calmly.
Tension filled the room immediately.
Kael crossed his arms tightly.
“The bond changes nothing.”
The spirit almost looked amused.
“Keep telling yourself that, Alpha.”
Lyra looked between them anxiously.
Mate.
The word frightened her.
In werewolf society, mate bonds were sacred.
Permanent.
Intense.
Powerful enough to ruin lives.
And Kael clearly hated the idea.
Something painful twisted inside her chest.
The spirit noticed immediately.
“Do not fear rejection, child.”
Kael’s gaze snapped toward her.
But the spirit continued speaking to Lyra gently.
“The bond chose him because his soul recognizes yours.”
Kael exhaled sharply in frustration.
“This conversation is over.”
The spirit ignored him completely.
“You are entering the first stage of awakening now,” she warned Lyra. “Your abilities will become unstable.”
Lyra frowned slightly.
The spirit lifted her hand.
Silver light formed images in the air—
Students screaming.
Blackthorn Academy burning.
Lyra surrounded by silver flames.
Kael stepped forward immediately.
“What is this?”
“A future not yet decided.”
The spirit’s voice became grave.
“The Crimson Fang is only the beginning.”
The image shifted.
A massive wolf with glowing red eyes appeared beneath a blood moon.
Even Kael stiffened at the sight.
“The Shadow Alpha rises again.”
Fear slid through the chamber.
Lyra couldn’t look away from the terrifying creature.
The spirit’s voice softened sadly.
“And only the Moon Healer can stop him.”
Then suddenly—
the silver mist began fading.
The spirit looked at Lyra one final time.
“You must learn control before the next full moon.”
Her glowing eyes shifted briefly toward Kael.
“And you must decide whether love will strengthen her…”
“…or destroy her.”
The spirit vanished instantly.
Silence filled the chamber again.
Heavy.
Unsteady.
Lyra slowly turned toward Kael.
Mate.
The truth now stood between them like fire.
Kael stared at the empty space where the spirit had disappeared.
Then finally looked at her.
For once—
the strongest Alpha in Blackthorn Academy looked uncertain.
And somehow…
that frightened Lyra more than anything else.
