THE SILENT OMEGA Chapter 8 — The Alpha Unleashed The chamber shook beneath Kael’s rage. Pure Alpha power flooded the room so violently that cracks spread across the stone walls. The fire near the hearth exploded higher, reacting to the pressure in the air. Lyra had never seen him like this before. Not controlled. Not calm. Furious. His silver eyes had nearly turned wolf. The Crimson Fang rogue only smiled wider. “Well,” he mused softly, “now I understand why the bond formed so quickly.” Kael stepped between the rogue and Lyra instantly. Protective. Deadly. “Name,” Kael said coldly. The rogue gave a mocking bow. “Caius.” The name meant nothing to Lyra. But Kael’s expression darkened immediately. “You’re one of their generals.” Caius smirked. “I’m honored you remember.” Kael’s claws extended slowly. “You have three seconds before I rip your throat out.” Caius laughed. “That possessiveness is dangerous, Alpha.” His red eyes shifted briefly toward Lyra. “The Moon Healer will suffer because of it.” Kael moved. Fast enough that Lyra barely saw it. One second he stood in front of her— the next, he had slammed Caius through the stone wall. The impact thundered through the chamber. Caius recovered instantly, black energy exploding around him as he blocked Kael’s next strike. The collision shook the floor beneath them. Lyra stumbled backward. The power between them felt monstrous. Caius grinned while dodging another vicious attack. “So protective already,” he taunted. “Does she know what happens when mates lose each other?” Kael attacked harder. Pure fury now. Lyra watched in shock as Kael partially shifted further than before. Silver claws sliced through the air with terrifying speed. Caius barely avoided losing his head. “You’ll destroy yourself at this rate,” Caius laughed darkly. Kael grabbed him by the throat and slammed him against a pillar. “I’ll enjoy it.” The killing intent in his voice sent chills through the room. Caius looked genuinely impressed. “There it is,” he whispered. “The monster Blackthorn hides.” Kael’s grip tightened. But suddenly— pain exploded through Lyra’s chest again. She gasped sharply as silver light burst beneath her skin. Kael froze instantly. The mate bond reacted violently to his emotional state. Lyra collapsed to one knee, trembling. “Kael—” The name escaped her lips softly. The room went completely silent. Even Lyra froze in horror. She had spoken. One word. But after years of silence— she had actually spoken. Kael turned toward her slowly. Shock filled his face. Caius stared at her with widened eyes before laughing in disbelief. “Well,” he breathed, “that changes everything.” Lyra touched her throat shakily. Impossible. Her voice sounded weak from disuse, barely more than a whisper. But it had been real. Kael moved toward her immediately. “Lyra.” Hearing him say her name differently now made her chest tighten painfully. Caius watched the scene carefully. Then his expression slowly darkened. “The seal is breaking faster than expected.” Kael looked up sharply. “What seal?” Caius smiled coldly. “Her mother didn’t only seal her voice.” Fear slid through Lyra instantly. Caius pointed toward her glowing markings. “She sealed the true form of the Moon Healer.” The chamber grew colder. Kael stepped closer protectively. “Explain.” Caius laughed softly. “You still don’t understand what she becomes when the seal fully breaks.” His red eyes locked onto Lyra. “Moon Healers were feared because they could heal entire armies…” His smile widened. “…or erase them.” Lyra’s breathing quickened. No. That couldn’t be true. Caius tilted his head slightly. “You’ve already started changing, haven’t you?” Images flashed suddenly through Lyra’s mind— Silver flames. Screaming soldiers. A massive wolf made of moonlight. Pain exploded inside her skull. She cried out softly and grabbed her head. Kael immediately knelt beside her. “Look at me.” His voice cut through the panic instantly. Lyra focused on him shakily. Silver eyes. Steady breathing. Warm hands gripping hers carefully. The pain eased slightly. Caius watched silently before smiling again. “Amazing.” Kael glared at him murderously. “You’re leaving.” Caius sighed dramatically. “Unfortunately, yes.” Black smoke suddenly curled around his body. “But the Shadow Alpha already knows she’s awake now.” Kael’s expression hardened dangerously. Caius gave Lyra one final look. “When the full moon rises, little healer…” His smile turned chilling. “…you’ll finally understand why your mother feared you.” Then the shadows swallowed him completely. Gone. Silence crashed through the chamber. Lyra’s breathing remained uneven. Kael stayed beside her, hands still gripping hers tightly. Neither of them spoke for several seconds. Then quietly— “You talked.” Lyra’s eyes widened slightly. She slowly touched her throat again. Her first word in years… had been his name. Kael seemed affected by that realization too. His expression softened in a way she had never seen before. Almost vulnerable. “Can you do it again?” he asked carefully. Lyra opened her mouth slowly. Nothing came out. Frustration immediately crossed her face. Kael shook his head slightly. “Don’t force it.” But hope had already sparked painfully inside her chest. Maybe the seal truly was breaking. Maybe she wasn’t trapped in silence forever. Kael studied her quietly. Then his hand lifted before he seemed to think better of it. Too late. His fingers brushed lightly against her cheek. The mate bond surged instantly. Heat exploded between them. Lyra’s breath caught. Kael froze. Their faces were suddenly too close. Dangerously close. For one brief second, neither of them moved. Then footsteps echoed outside the chamber. Kael pulled away immediately. The moment shattered. The heavy doors opened and Headmistress Seraphine entered quickly. Her sharp eyes moved between them once before landing on the destroyed wall. Then her gaze darkened. “He was here.” Kael stood slowly. “Caius.” Seraphine cursed softly under her breath. “That’s impossible.” “He mentioned the Shadow Alpha,” Kael added grimly. The Headmistress went still. Real fear crossed her face for the first time. Lyra noticed immediately. And that terrified her. Because if someone as powerful as Seraphine feared the Shadow Alpha… then whatever was coming for her was far worse than she imagined.
