THE SILENT OMEGA
Chapter 10 — The Moon Sanctuary
Night covered Blackthorn Academy beneath silver snowfall.
Most students remained locked inside their dormitories after the rogue attacks. Guards patrolled every corridor while protective barriers glowed faintly around the academy walls.
Fear had changed the atmosphere completely.
And at the center of every rumor—
was Lyra.
She felt the stares even while walking through the empty northern corridor beside Kael and Headmistress Seraphine.
No longer invisible.
Now feared.
Somehow, that felt worse.
Seraphine stopped before a massive iron gate hidden beneath the academy staircase. Ancient wolf symbols covered the surface, glowing faintly silver as Lyra approached.
The air felt different here.
Older.
Alive.
“This entrance has remained sealed for nearly two centuries,” Seraphine said quietly.
Kael’s silver eyes narrowed slightly. “Since the last healer disappeared.”
Seraphine nodded once.
Then looked toward Lyra.
“Place your hand on the seal.”
Lyra hesitated before stepping forward slowly.
The moment her fingers touched the ancient symbol—
silver light exploded across the gate.
The entire corridor shook violently.
A deep sound echoed beneath the academy like something enormous awakening underground.
Then the gate slowly opened.
Cold silver mist drifted outward.
Lyra stared into the darkness beyond.
The sanctuary waited below.
Kael stepped beside her immediately.
Protective again.
Always protective lately.
The realization made warmth spread unexpectedly through her chest.
Seraphine grabbed a lantern from the wall.
“Stay close.”
They descended deep beneath Blackthorn Academy through ancient stone tunnels untouched by time.
The further they walked, the stronger Lyra’s strange energy became.
The silver markings beneath her skin glowed faintly now.
Responding.
As if the sanctuary recognized her.
Kael noticed immediately.
“How old is this place?” he asked quietly.
“Older than the academy itself,” Seraphine replied.
The tunnels eventually opened into a massive underground chamber.
Lyra stopped breathing.
Moonlight somehow poured through cracks in the ceiling far above, illuminating an enormous circular sanctuary carved entirely from silver stone.
Ancient symbols covered every wall.
Waterfalls shimmered softly along the edges of the cavern.
And in the center stood a glowing silver tree unlike anything Lyra had ever seen.
Its branches looked made of moonlight itself.
Beautiful.
Ancient.
Powerful.
“The Moon Tree,” Seraphine whispered.
Lyra stepped forward slowly, unable to look away.
The closer she got—
the louder the whispers inside her mind became.
Welcome home.
Her chest tightened painfully.
Home.
She had never truly belonged anywhere before.
Kael remained close beside her, watching the sanctuary carefully.
“This place still has active magic,” he murmured.
Seraphine nodded. “Moon Healer energy.”
The silver tree suddenly glowed brighter.
Lyra froze.
A pulse of silver light spread across the sanctuary floor.
Then another.
The air itself seemed to hum around her.
Kael’s posture immediately sharpened.
“What’s happening?”
Seraphine looked stunned.
“It’s responding to her.”
The tree’s branches moved despite the lack of wind.
Silver petals drifted softly through the chamber.
Then—
images appeared in the glowing water surrounding the sanctuary.
Visions.
Lyra stepped closer slowly.
And gasped.
She saw herself as a child.
A little girl running through snow while holding her mother’s hand.
Kael moved beside her immediately.
The vision shifted.
Dark wolves surrounded the forest.
Screams echoed.
Blood stained the snow red.
Lyra’s breathing became uneven.
No…
The memory felt too real.
Her mother knelt before her desperately, silver light glowing around her hands.
“Listen to me,” her mother whispered tearfully. “You must never speak.”
Young Lyra cried silently.
Her mother pressed trembling fingers against her throat.
Silver symbols appeared instantly around the child.
A seal.
Kael’s expression darkened as he watched.
The vision continued.
“You are not weak,” her mother whispered. “You are the last.”
Then suddenly—
a massive shadow appeared behind the trees.
Red glowing eyes opened in the darkness.
Even Seraphine stiffened.
The Shadow Alpha.
Young Lyra’s mother looked terrified.
“Run!”
The vision shattered violently.
Lyra stumbled backward, breathing hard.
Pain stabbed through her chest again.
Kael caught her before she fell.
“Easy.”
The mate bond surged warmly through her instantly.
Grounding her.
Steadying her.
The sanctuary lights dimmed slightly.
Seraphine stared at the water silently.
“She knew he was coming.”
Kael’s jaw tightened.
“She sacrificed herself to protect Lyra.”
Lyra gripped Kael’s sleeve tightly.
The grief inside her chest felt unbearable.
Her mother had died protecting her.
And she still didn’t fully understand why.
The silver tree suddenly pulsed again.
Stronger this time.
A single silver petal floated downward slowly before landing in Lyra’s palm.
The moment she touched it—
power exploded through her body.
Silver light burst across the sanctuary.
Lyra cried out softly as memories flooded her mind violently.
Ancient healers.
Wars beneath blood moons.
Silver wolves fighting shadow creatures.
And one terrifying truth—
Moon Healers were never meant only to heal.
They were created to destroy darkness.
Kael grabbed her shoulders immediately.
“Lyra!”
Her glowing silver eyes lifted toward him slowly.
And for one terrifying second—
Kael saw ancient power staring back at him.
Not human.
Not wolf.
Something far older.
The sanctuary trembled violently.
The Moon Tree glowed brighter than before.
And deep beneath the academy…
something sealed in darkness began waking up.
