THE SILENT OMEGA Chapter 2 — The Alpha’s Attention The combat hall remained silent long after Tristan fled. No one dared move. No one dared speak. Professor Kael Draven’s Alpha aura still pressed heavily against the room like a storm ready to break. Even the strongest students kept their eyes lowered. Lyra slowly pushed herself up from the arena floor, ignoring the sharp pain burning through her shoulder. Blood soaked the sleeve of her black academy uniform. Kael’s gaze remained fixed on her. “You’re injured,” he said. It wasn’t concern. It was observation. Like he was studying something dangerous. Lyra gave a small nod and stepped back, intending to leave the arena quietly. “Stay.” His voice stopped her instantly. Whispers spread through the students. “Why is he stopping her?” “She’s just an Omega.” Kael silenced the room with a single cold glance. Then he turned back toward Lyra. “Come here.” Her heartbeat quickened. Every instinct warned her to keep her distance from powerful Alphas. Especially this one. But refusing a direct order from Professor Draven was impossible. Slowly, she approached him. The closer she got, the stronger his scent became. Pine. Smoke. Winter rain. Dangerous. Lyra kept her eyes lowered as she stopped in front of him. Kael studied the blood staining her shoulder. “Who taught you to fight like that?” She stiffened slightly. No one. At least no one alive. Memories flashed through her mind again— Moonlight in the forest. A woman’s voice whispering instructions. A pair of silver eyes. Move faster, little wolf. Pain pulsed behind her temples. Kael noticed immediately. His expression darkened slightly. “You hide your pain well,” he murmured. Lyra avoided his gaze. The entire room watched them with growing confusion. Professor Draven never spoke this long to students. Especially not Omegas. Kael finally stepped back. “Class dismissed.” The students hesitated before rushing toward the exits, desperate to escape the oppressive atmosphere. But many kept glancing back at Lyra. Curiosity had replaced mockery. That was worse. Within minutes, the hall emptied. Only Lyra and Kael remained. The large room suddenly felt too quiet. Kael walked toward the weapon rack near the wall while speaking calmly. “You’ve had combat training before Blackthorn.” It wasn’t a question. Lyra remained silent. Kael picked up a practice dagger, examining its blade thoughtfully. “Your footwork is advanced.” “You analyze movements before reacting.” “And you knew exactly how to use your opponent’s momentum.” His silver eyes lifted toward her. “That level of instinct isn’t normal.” A chill slid down Lyra’s spine. He noticed too much. Most people saw only a mute Omega. But Professor Draven looked deeper. And that frightened her. Kael placed the dagger down carefully. “You can’t speak,” he said. “Can you write?” Lyra nodded once. He handed her a small notebook from the nearby desk. “Answer.” Her fingers hesitated before taking the notebook. She quickly wrote: I taught myself. Kael read the words silently. Then his eyes narrowed slightly. “A lie.” Lyra’s pulse jumped. He stepped closer again. Too close. “You move like someone trained to survive,” he said quietly. “Not like a student.” His voice had lowered. Softer. More dangerous. Lyra instinctively stepped backward. Kael noticed. Something unreadable crossed his expression. Then suddenly— A sharp ringing sound echoed through the academy. Alarm bells. Kael’s head snapped toward the windows instantly. His entire posture changed. Alert. Deadly. Another bell rang. Emergency signal. Students shouted outside the hall. Footsteps thundered through the corridors. Kael moved toward the doors immediately. “Stay inside.” Lyra looked toward the windows anxiously. Something felt wrong. Very wrong. The scent hit her first. Blood. Then came the scream. A terrified student screamed somewhere outside the building. Kael cursed under his breath and rushed toward the exit. But before he could leave— The doors exploded inward. A body crashed across the floor. Blood spread beneath the fallen student instantly. Lyra gasped softly. Behind the shattered doorway stood three figures dressed in dark crimson cloaks. Rogue wolves. Their eyes glowed unnaturally red. The atmosphere inside the hall changed immediately. Violent. Corrupted. One of the rogues sniffed the air slowly. Then smiled. “There it is,” he whispered. Kael stepped in front of Lyra instantly. Protective. Possessive. The rogue’s grin widened. “Well,” he said softly, staring directly at Lyra, “looks like we finally found her.” Fear tightened inside her chest. Found her? Kael’s voice turned ice cold. “You have five seconds to explain why you entered my academy.” The rogues laughed. One shifted partially, black claws extending from his fingers. “We’re not here for students,” he said. His glowing eyes locked onto Lyra again. “We came for the Moon Healer.” The world seemed to stop. Lyra’s breath caught. Moon Healer? Kael slowly glanced back at her. And for the first time since meeting him… She saw genuine shock in his silver eyes. Because somehow— these strangers knew exactly who she was. Before she did.
