JASPER The sky hung low and heavy over the city; even the weather knew something in me had finally broken. The silence after violence was always the worst. Not the shouting, punches, or even the blood. But that fast calmness and realization that snaps you back into reality. Because once everything is quiet, you are left with the truth. And tonight, the truth was unbearable. I stared at my reflection through the bathroom mirror, breathing slowly as water dripped from my bruised knuckles into the sink. My jaw was already darkening. Morrison had hit harder than I expected. That bastard! I should have felt satisfaction after landing my fists against him, but instead, I felt restless and agitated. The fight only opened something deeper instead of settling it. “...she ran away from you.”
