By the time the bodies of the twenty soldiers and the contents of the house had been returned to the encampment, Colonal Charford had been summoned back from his furlough by an emphatic but courteous letter from Captain Guerion.
Colonel Charford was tough. Unlike Guerion, he knew the secondary reason for the encampment was to gather forces to back Jarand’s quest for the throne but his commitment to restoring law and order was genuine. He demanded loyalty and discipline from his men and he had already had words on a few occasions with Andoran and Sargon about their casual attitude. He was not a party to Andoran and Sargon’s little scheme and would not have wanted to be.
