Chapter 4: Keller Group

761 Words
Evan walked back to the living room, cursing under his nose. Adrian was in the kitchen preparing lunch for them. "What did she say?" Adrian turned to look at Evan. "What can she say? Nothing!" Evan said. "I actually don't feel satisfied enough. Maybe I should curse her out a bit more and even beat the s**t out of Dorian?" "No need for that, bro. It's a waste of time and strength," Adrian continued, cutting up the vegetables. Adrian seemed to look lost in thoughts. It was as if the cries from last night were all but a distant memory. "Are you still trying to defend her, Adrian?!" "No. I am just saying that... I am trying to move on. Sometimes letting go and finding peace is better revenge, no?" Evan looked at his brother for a minute and said, "Alright, fine! I won't do anything. But don't you dare go back to her got it?" Adrian just smiled at his overprotective little brother and nodded. But Evan knew that Adrian was not okay at all. His brother was still cutting the vegetables before Mia came. Adrian loved doing something when he was lost in thoughts. Yet Evan couldn't bring himself to break his composure so he just acted like he didn't notice. Evan sat on the sofa, turned on his PS4 and, while waiting for the game to load, "So, what's your plan now? Now that you don't really need to waste your time on her, you could finally focus on yourself." "Didn't decide on anything just yet." Adrian stopped cutting the vegetables for a second and an idea came to his mind. "Maybe let's start a business?" Evan turned around: "What business? Plus, even if we want to we don't have any capital." Adrian thought for a second: "I don't know yet... I just want us to build something that's ours." Adrian had never really allowed himself to dream too big. In his world, dreams were expensive, and disappointment was usually free. But seeing his brother smile. Truly smile, for the first time since last night, he couldn't say no. Then Adrian continued: “Maybe we can learn to code. With all this AI stuff, people are building things from laptops now.” Evan smirked. “Bro, we barely have a laptop that doesn’t sound like a jet engine.” "Hey! At least we will begin somewhere, right?" Adrian turned to his brother with a smile. "Hell! Why not? Let's do it!" Just then the game on the screen loaded. Evan didn't look back at the game. He just looked at his brother. Adrian seemed to be slowly but steadily trying to move on. "So when do we start?" Evan threw the controller onto the couch and jumped on his feet. "Right after I finish preparing the food. I don't wanna work on an empty stomach." "Nah, leave it. We will order DoorDash today! On me!" Evan seemed more eager and happy to start this new chapter of their lives than Adrian. Adrian smiled. "Fine, let's start then!" "Now we just need to figure out where to start, Mr.CEO." Evan smirked. "CEO?" "Yes, you are officially the CEO as of today... hmm let me think for a second." Evan crossed his arms and closed his eyes as if lost in deep thoughts. "Keller Group! Yes! As of today, you are the CEO of Keller Group. Adrian Keller the CEO!" Adrian laughed "Fine. I expect you to work hard, Mr. Vice President, or I might fire you." "You can count on me!" Evan puffed up his chest proudly. They turned on their almost ancient laptop and Googled "how to learn coding?" "s**t, it looks harder than I thought." Adrian laughed nervously. "Yeah, I guess we got more stuff to deal with than we thought." "I guess." Keller Group. Adrian remembered how their father would say that their last name, Keller, would mean something one day. Yet these days he was barely home, always running from one meeting to another, chasing investors who stopped answering his calls. "Dad would like the name Keller Group." Adrian laughed, looking at the laptop, remembering the name Evan chose. "He would say that we are doing stupid s**t as always." "Yeah," Evan said, "But he would tell us to do it anyway." The company did not exist. They had neither the skills nor the finances to start. They had one dying laptop and dreams. Yet that was enough for them. Adrian always believed as long as they were together, nothing could stop the Keller brothers.
