Chapter 10
“Hold on, Jess. Roamer, stay!” Gregory instructed as he tried to unbolt the gate in the early dawn with the dogs capering excitedly around his legs. As they sped through the gap, taking him with them, Gregory shook himself fully awake.
Despite his preoccupations, he had slept heavily, but with the morning, all his fears had returned. He tried to reassure himself, thinking, It is too soon to hear any news, good or bad, but still…He sighed, trying to keep up with the dogs as they hurtled toward Spitalfield.
Roamer and Jess were whining in anticipation when they arrived at the green, and Gregory bent to release them from their leads.
“I thought I might find you here,” said a familiar voice behind him.
