Rushing out the diner doors, scooping up Logan; I never even realized who was holding him. I look down at the gurnie; its ocean eyes. He smiles at me; my heart stops. "He wanted to wait with me, while he waited on mommy to come out of the potty." After everything that just happened; I surprised myself when I laughed. "The names Red, and this is Logan." I reach my hand out to shake his hand. "Dustin." Hmmmm....
"Dustin"... Such a simple name, but for some reasons I felt chills run down my spin. I smile; "Thank you Dustin, are you ok?" My eyes land on his wound; guilt rushing over me. He has a goofy smile as he says "It's just a scratch. Apparently being a superhero is not my calling. You saved yourself; all I did was get shot."
I giggle as I look back into his eyes, as i see the joking wash from his face. He looks at me "I'm sorry." I cant help but laugh, "For what? I think its sweet you tried to save me."
With a slight look of disappointment on his face, he looks at the ground. "I was going to come say hello to you before s**t hit the fan. Then I failed at protecting you, I was going to ask if you would like to grab a cup of coffee sometime; but I understand...." I cut him off kissing him on the cheek; before I could even think about what I was doing. His faces blushes; "I would love to ocean eyes, its the least I can do for the man who got shot for me."
As I finish giving my statement to the officer; I don't even have to turn around, I already know whos dark eyes are watching me. Writing my number on my receipt; I hand it to Dustin, feeling that unexplainable strong feeling as his fingers brush mine. I know he felt it too; his eyes met mine one more time "you'll be hearing from me babygirl."
Its 10:30 at night Logan is fast asleep and I'm not really tired considering the eventful day. I turn on some music and pour me some whiskey on ice; drifting off into my thoughts as I always do, but this time they were different. I had only looked at Dustin for a matter of minutes yet I can remember every detail. I can easily picture those goreous dark blue eyes, and that pefectly tamed hair; even after being shot it still looked perfect. Imagining the veins running down the muscles of his arms and stopping at his knuckles; the cigarette burns on his right chest muscles. My imagination drifts even further.... This beautiful mysterious man, walkimg up to me. I feel my eyes close; as I hear him call me babygirl, his strong yet freezing cold finger tips brushing my hair out of my face. My breath gets heavy, as he leans in.....and I'm snapped out of my imagination by something.
My phone; its 11:45 who could possibly be trying to get a hold of me at this hour. A number pops up on me creen I'm unfamiliar with.
"Hey babygirl, I didn't get the chance to tell you; you are the most stunningly beautiful Woman I have ever laid my eyes on. May I ask how you became such a goddess?" I smile stupidly at my phone and giggle a little; "Not even close ocean eyes, I'm closer to Devil than I'd ever be to a Goddess."
"What? Never, your gorgeous and brave and heroic, that's a Goddess if I've ever seen one."
"Its survival dollface, not heroism. There's a huge difference."
The cute bantering and slight flirting goes on for hours; then my phone rings, and I get that stupid smile on my face again, feeling myself blush; I answer.
"How may I help you?"
"Theres plenty of way you could help. me. But for now your voice will have to. do babygirl."
I get that warm shiver down my spine, it runs all the way down to my toes; we talk on the phone for hours. I see the sun rising, and I can't keep my eyes open any longer. Dustin hasnt said anything for a minute, and his breathing is shallow; I drift off to slumber, enjoying the sound of his breath a little too much." Why do I feel so comfortable around him? Why do I feel like I've known him for years, yet it hasn't even been twenty-four hours?
