Chapter 6

1717 Words
Tomorrow is Talon’s wedding, and today I’m going to see my baby’s gender, so you could say I have a busy week. Grayson wanted to come with me, but I think Kiki’s visiting him at his office, so I’ll drop by the office and give him the picture and the info. I lay down as the doctor puts the gel on my belly.  “Your baby's rubbery cartilage is now turning to bone. Your baby’s also growing some meat on those bones, putting on some fat. He’s developing a more robust, thicker umbilical cord too.”  I look at the sonogram. “It’s a boy?” I ask.  I don’t care about the facts as long as the baby’s healthy. I want to know if it’s a girl or a boy.  The doctor laughs. “Oh, sorry, yes, it’s a boy, congratulations!”  I smile. I thought it was a girl, but a boy is beautiful too. “Thank you.” I almost rubbed my belly but remember the doctor’s still looking for health issues.  “Just doing my job,” The doctor smiles. “I noticed you have heterochromia. Is that genetic?”  “My grandmother had it, but different eye colors. I have my dad’s gray eye in my left and my mom’s hazel in my right eye.”  The doctor nods. “Does it cause health problems, mostly in your eyes?”  I shake my head. “In fact, I never had to wear glasses.”  I look at the doctor writing notes, and I remember something Grayson said. “Can the baby have heterochromia?”  The doctor shrugs. “He has a high chance since you and your grandmother have it, but it might happen to his children and not him.”  I nodded, not wanting to think about being a grandmother. “Thank you,” I say once again.  The doctor nods and closes the door behind her while I dress. When I get in the car, the first thing I do is take Grayson’s card and put the address on my phone.  The office was actually very close to the apartment.  Oh, Grayson, you’re so cute.   The office was huge. This isn’t an office; this is a whole business.  I walk up to the receptionist.  “Hello, how may I help you?” She smiles.  “I’m here to see Grayson Taylor.” I say with a huge smile. I took a long time at the doctor’s, so Kiki should have left by now.  “I’m sorry, Mr. Taylor doesn’t-,” I show her the card Grayson gave me, and she nods.  Damn, it works. She takes me to the top floor and basically says it’s self-explanatory.  His office is on my left. I knock on his door, but he doesn’t answer, but I hear muffled yelling.  I put my ear on the door.  “What do you want from me, Kiki?”  Kiki scoffs. “I want another child, you dumb f**k!”  What the hell? That must be a different Kiki.  “Kiki, I’m not buying another surrogate and pretending you’re pregnant.”  “You’d better, a real man would have given me a son, but no, you put a girl inside my egg.”  “Oh my god, I didn’t do anything, blame God or whatever.”  I hear Kiki laugh coldly. “She couldn’t even look like me. She’s not my daughter.”  “Kiki, this is why you can’t bear your own child. Rosalia is your child just as much as she is mine! You ignore her and disown her for no reason. f**k out of my office; I’m not doing anything.”  I decided to open the door before someone hits someone. “Hi!”  Grayson looks as confused as Kiki. “Winnie the pooh? Why are you here?”  “Grayson offered me a job because Johnny bailed on me.”  Kiki nods. “Oh, I’m sorry, he’s a b***h. How’s school,”  “It’s cool. Sometimes I do online when I don’t want to wake up at 5 am.”  Kiki smiles. “Ok, well, I’ll leave you alone, do a good job. I want to see you around!”  I wave. “See you tomorrow!”  Kiki nods before closing the door.  Grayson looks up at me. “Why are you here?”  “Damn Grayson, you’ve been avoiding me,”  “For good reason, I’m-.”  “I didn’t come to fight, I came to give you a sonogram picture and tell you the gender, but if you’re too mean to me, I won’t tell you.” I sit on the couch.  Grayson sighs and gets up, and kneels in front of me.  “I’m sorry, Winston, now tell me.” I look at his sad eyes and give in.  I meant to play this game a little longer, but he’s sad. I want to lift his spirits.  “It’s a boy, and the doctor says he has a high chance of having heterochromia.”  Grayson smiles and spins me around. “He’s gonna be beautiful, like his mother.”  I look away. “Please, Grayson.”  Grayson moves so he sees my face. “Winston Chae-Young Joon, You are beautiful.”  My eyes go wide, he learned how to say my name, but before I could say anything, he kisses me.  When he realizes himself, Grayson pulls away and hugs me.  “Grayson, what happened?” Grayson shakes his head, still holding me. Even though I know what happened, I want him to tell me.  “Nothing, Winston.”  I pull away. “Ok,” I whisper. “But I have to go; Talon’s gonna be mad because I didn’t tell her first.”  Grayson smiles. “Ok.”  I wave and blow him a kiss, leaving the office. Is Kiki really sexist? Was she actually mad that her daughter didn’t look like her? I don’t want to believe it, or else I’ll be trying to ruin her marriage. I open my old apartment door, and no one was there. I turn to leave, but I hear moaning.  “Ooh, Talon’s getting down.” I say to myself.  As I move closer, I notice the noises coming from Zaro’s room.  Zaro?! Zaro and who?! I open the door, and I couldn’t believe what I saw.  Nessira and Zaro are f*****g!  “Nessira?! Zaro?!” They both immediately pull away.  “Winston!” Nessira covers herself.  “You guys- How long-,” Nessira and Zaro look at each other.  “It was just today, I swear. I was helping Zaro move into your room, and well, you know,” Nessira says quickly.  “Please don’t tell Talon or mom.” Zaro begs.  “I have no right to tell anyone, I mean, I’m pregnant with a married man, and you guys are single, so I don’t care, but Zaro, I thought you were innocent,” I giggle. “I should take a picture!” Zaro and Nessira hide under the covers while I laugh.  The door makes a sound.  “Talon’s coming. Hurry and dress up!” I close their door, smile, and make my way to Talon. “Hey.” I say as calmly as possible.  Talon smiles.  “Girl or boy?!”  Damn, no hi back.  “Um, guess.” Talon stops smiling, but I’m trying to help Zaro and Nessira dress up.  “I’m not guessing if you know already. TELL ME.”  I sit down. “Ok, ok, It’s a boy.”  “A boy?!” Zaro and Nessira come out.  I nod and smile because Talon’s smiling and not wondering why Nessira and Zaro came out of the same room. ”I betted it was a girl.” Zaro frowns, taking out his wallet and giving ten dollars each to Nessira and Talon.  I smile and shake my head. “I have to pick out a name because now I don’t like any of the names I picked out before.”  “Are you going to do it with Grayson?” Talon asks.  I pause.  “I don’t know.” I shrug.  “Win-bae, I saw what he did when we were decorating,” Zaro says.  “It was so cute I forgot he was a married man, and I shipped you guys.” Nessira squeals.  “Guys, remember Kiki, I don’t judge you, Winston, but don’t ruin his marriage. There are billions of people, and Grayson’s not the one. Plus, he’s thirty. It’s a seven-year difference.” Talon crosses her arms.  Now I see why Grayson was so surprised to hear that I’m twenty-three because he has just turned thirty, but Talon doesn’t know what I know, plus I never wanted someone around my age.  I smile as if I wouldn’t do anything.  “Ok.” I hug all of them. “I’ll see you tomorrow, bye!”  They all wave and scream bye as I close their door.  I’ve been eating only junk food and some fruit and veggies here and there. My doctor says if I don’t want such a big baby coming out of my hole, I should calm down.  Telling Grayson and Rosalia was a big mistake.  “Rosalia, where’s all the chocolate?!”  Rosalia shrugs. “My dad informed me that you’re not supposed to be overeating sugary stuff, so he took the chocolate and marshmallows to his house. He also said I shouldn’t let you order food,” Rosalia picks up a book that says: Recipes for Pregnant Women. “Here, he said to follow recipes from here and cook them.”  I look at the recipes, and here are all the foods I might like: Dark Chocolate Frozen Bananas, Chocolate-Avocado Mousse,  Chocolate-Covered Peanuts, and Cocoa-Dusted Popcorn. “Rosa, please.” I beg, but she shakes her head.  “You need to keep my baby brother healthy, mom.”  I blink several times. Did she just call me, mom?  “Rosalia-,”  “Will you please be my mom?” She asks.  I am beyond baffled, but Rosalia’s a sweet kid. How can I say no? I pull her in a hug. “Of course, I will.” I smile.  Rosalia cries into my shoulder. “Thank you.”
