I woke up feeling lightheaded and nauseous. The type you feel when you are pregnant except I was just too tired from the work before. I even had the weirdest dream ever to be sure how much my brain needed rest from processing too much information.

The dream was so ridiculous that it didn’t make sense. I was attacked by some kind of animal that sort of looked like a human being and then I even became the animal and at a point, I was connected to tubes like I was in some form of Matrix movie. One dude that I couldn’t even recognize saved me from the animal and blah blah blah.

I was having a splitting headache as I went into the bathroom to get ready for work. My boss was going to kill me if I came late. I was not looking forward to going to the office but I don’t have a choice.

I was at the wash hand basin about to brush my teeth when I saw it.

Claw marks from my neck to my body.

My eyes widen.

No, it could never be, That would just be ridiculous

Maybe, I injured myself on the way and I just don’t remember since it was that late and I was that tired. So I brushed it off and went to work.

For some reason, Jake could not take his mind off the girl. There was something about her that kept drawing him closer to her aside from being a suspect.

He watched her as she went about her work and he saw how terrible her boss was being.

His mind flashed back to his soulmate back in the day. She was beautiful and she had this ignorant air around her that made her innocence stand out. But that was not always a good thing because she ended up dead.

No, that was not her fault.

She died because of him. She died because he could not protect her from the Alpha King, his half-brother and arch nemesis.

Now he had a chance to protect this lady in his work. Claire McCauley claims to be an orphan. Deep down he felt that she was just a simple child but the events of yesterday replayed in his head so much that that was the only reason explanation.

Seth showed up in his office and jolted him back to reality.

“You need to stop staring. You are being too obvious”

“Also, your right-hand man is back so you just say the word and it is done”

“Did you…”

“Yes I did check and no she is as simple as they come”

Seth smiled. Claire was not that simple. He had done some investigation from yesterday night till this afternoon and found out that she was just a victim in this situation.

“Well now that she is a wolf, we need to keep an extra eye on her”

Jake looked at his friend and wondered why he was so amused. The only time Seth’s face was ever like that was when he was about to suggest something very ridiculous.

“Make her work for you directly and keep watch over her”

Like now

“You want me to make her my assistant so that she can find out who we are”

“What if she is only pretending to be a victim, we did give her the antidote”

“Then it helps us more to control her, Plus you need the help since Cain is…”

It was too painful to continue the sentence. Going Feral was as good as a human going completely mad. The chances of coming back were almost impossible.

Jake left the glass window where he was looking at the girl and went to sit down behind his desk.

“Did you find anything about those rogues yet”

“Yes, I found the rogues and they are now in my custody, but…” Seth paused and looked at Jake as if he was trying to achieve dramatic suspense.

“But what..” Jake was getting restless.

“The rogues aren’t behind the wolves going Feral”

“Memphis is using dark magic, He is doing it to mess with you”

“He still thinks I abducted his child”

“After all these years, he should drop it,” Seth said with so much frustration in his voice that even Jake was surprised. Seth was usually calm and collected most of the time.

“Twenty-three years isn’t a long time for Memphis, is it?”

“I guess not.”
