That look on Rose’s face two days ago was everything I had dreamed of seeing. It was a shattered and defeated look she had when she came in and saw me on Aiden’s bed. That was all I wanted. The pain and disbelief in her eyes with the way her whole body froze. They kept replaying in my mind. Whenever I remembered it, my heart leapt for joy.
Of course, I had almost lost my life in the process. If Fred had not stormed in at the right time, that fool would have strangled me to death. I still shivered at the memory of his hands tightening my neck. I thought for a moment that my child and I were both gone.
