Doctors and nurses still crowded around Elle's bed as Dean was finally let into her hospital room. They checked the various IV lines, heart monitor and oxygen tubing they'd attached to her, a cannula in each hand delivering a concoction of drugs. He stood back, barely inside the room as he let them work, feeling like the walls were closing in with every growing second. One solitary window gave view of the hospital grounds, a plush green terrain dotted with concrete buildings. The colour of the flowers, the blossom beginning to show on the trees, gave a feeling of hope; but it greatly juxtaposed the bland canvas of cream that was Elle's temporary room. Everything in there screamed 'functional' and 'clinical', the only thing comforting about it being the gentle beep of her heart monitor. A
