1229 Words
Back at the Denton's mansion Mr. Denton returned home very late that night. He had a graved expression, as he tossed his coat to Bishop, who was at the entrance of the house. With slumped shoulders, Lambert ascended the stairs and went to to his room, ignoring his wife, who was on the bed, reading a book, already dressed for bed. "Find her?" she asked, as she tried to mask her worry some face. "No" he replied as he walked to the bathroom. "What?" Venetia jumped off the bed. "Woman, you heard me" he said to her with irritation and exhaustion. "My word" she placed her hand on her forehead and closed her eyes, trying to suppress her tears. What the hell was going on? Tiana had been out since morning, she didn't return home on time, and now her husband went to search for her, but he couldn't find her? Tiana was not the type to vanish without a trace. Something must have happened to her, Mrs. Denton concluded in her heart. "Where have you checked, Lambert?" she asked her husband, who didn't respond to her. He had guilt written all over his face, as he took of his clothes and entered the bath. Not wanting to rob salt on an open wound, Venetia let her husband be, and didn't ask him anymore question. She went to the window side and stared at the moon in deep thought. Her dear, Tiana. She must be so scared where ever she was. Where could she have gone? Perhaps she got into trouble with some people and took to her heels? But still, Tiana doesn't have any enemies that she knows of. What makes Valeria more terrified is that, the world is wicked towards creatures like her daughter. Many people don't believe in mermaids, but others who do, knows the magnificent prices that comes with it. "I hope she alright" she prayed silently. Her eyes left the moon and wondered around the mansions around, until it stopped at one opposite theirs. "Mmm" she hummed as she remembered her littlest daughter, Eve, bragging on how her big sister put their neighbour's son, in his place. Then a realization hit her. Her neighbour's son has always been found of her dear, Tiana. Running after her like an aimless dog. Few weeks ago, he asked for her hand in marriage, of which both she and her daughter declined. Being rejected by one of the finest ladies in the town, they became angry and kept malice with them for almost one month, untill the news about the rejection died down. Knowing her neighbours, Venetia had a hunch that they might have revenge on them, which is why she was always yelling at Tiana to stay at home, but she didn't listen. She squinted her eyes and poundered on her realization. She's hundred percent sure they could do something like that and the only way to find out was to confront them. With that thought in mind, she left the room and rushed down the stairs. Bishop, who was doing his late night inspection, saw the lady of the house heading out at late hour and offered to accompany her. She agreed and they both left for the mansion Edward and his mother, Dera, stayed. Bang bang bang She forcefully ponder on the door. Few minutes after, Dera opened the door. She was caught by surprise to see her neighbour standing in front of her house, with a fierced look. "Hey, Mrs. Denton. What brings you here by this time of the night?" she tried her best to be polite, despising Venetia in her heart. "Where's my daughter?" Venetia cut to the chase. In confusion, Dera asked "Excuse me? I don't follow" "Oh, don't play dumb with me, you old hag. Where is my baby?" she yelled, alerting neighbours who were sound asleep. Dera loosed the polite look and stared down at Venetia "Have you gone nuts? How can you come to my house, by this time of the night, asking me where the hell your own daughter is!" Dera's word hit Valeria like a low blow and she pounder on her words. What the hell is wrong with her? Is she going insane? Bishop noticed this and whispered to her "Madam, let's go. Tomorrow, Master will meet the magistrate. We will find her" Being too arrogant, Mrs. Denton didn't apologize, and was about leaving, when she heard Edward's voice. "Mother? Who's at the door?" he asked as he came to the entrance. On seeing the mother of the whom he loves, he quickly rushed to her and asked with worry "Mrs. Denton? What brings you here at this time of the night?" He hoped deep down she wasn't there for the incident that happened at the market or his pestering of her daughter at the castle. "Where's my daughter?" she asked, totally forgetting she was about to leave. She knew these two are good for nothing nincompoop and she's a hundred percent sure they are with her daughter. The must have saw her swimming in the lake and kidnap her for sale. Confused, Edward frowned and asked "Tiana's missing?" "Don't act like you're not aware!" she yelled, causing the people who she has awoken previously, to come out. "Aware of what?" Edward asked helplessly. His blood boil on the fact that the love of his life is missing. "You know what she is! You know it! And you've kidnapped her, so you could sell her and have money!" her voice was loud and audible. Neighbour s around started to gossip "Kidnap? What is going on, who was kidnapping? Who is what? Isn't that Lady Venetia? What's she doing? Is she trying to cause trouble for the family she rejected their hand in marriage? Ah, some people are classless" Bishop heard the gossips and try holding Venetia back, but she pushed him away and rushed into Edward's home. "Tiana!" she yelled. Tossing and turning the whole furniture, searching everywhere searchable. Dera watched this grinning ear to ear. Finally, she has found a way to put down her nemesis. Putting on a phony vexed expression, she suddenly yelled. "Stop!" her voice made the whole neighborhood quiet, and stopped Venetia from tearing down her house. Bishop clenched his fists as he stood outside, he couldn't walk in because of his class, and he couldn't leave and call for Mr. Denton, who could collapse, if he heard what was going on. Dera walked in with an evil smirk, hidden from everyone and ordered Venetia "Get out! You have embarrassed my family enough. First, you rejected my dear son's marriage proposal. You made fun of me because I have no husband to support me, then you accused me of kidnapping your daughter and now you are trashing my home! What have I done to deserve this?!?" Dera started fake crying and she knelt down on the floor "You have a husband and two beautiful children. You have one of the most beautiful homes in this town. What more do you want from a helpless widow, like me?" Her words touched the heart of the onlookers and thy started yelling at Venetia. In shame, Venetia bowed her head deeply and apologize "Forgive me for my menace behaviour" with that, she took her leave and bear as everyone made fun of her.
