Chapter 2

1207 Words
Trey's POV She wasn't supposed to be at my office today. She wasn't supposed to see what she saw. I never wanted to hurt her. I was going to ask her for a divorce tonight, but now that will have to wait. I still can't believe what I saw. How was the cyclist floating? How was she not hit by him? God, I wish she was. Then she wouldn't have been hit by the car. I wouldn't be holding my wife in the middle of the street. To top everything off, she hid the fact that she was pregnant. If I had known what was happening and why she was behaving the way she was, I would have never turned to my secretary. Now I find out that I am expecting not one but two babies at the same time. Staring down at Amelia's face as she lay unconscious in my arms, I am reminded how beautiful she is. I did this to her. Hugging her close, I don't want to let go as the paramedics arrive. They pry her from my arms as I stare in shock. Looking up, I see my secretary. I feel as if I am looking at my future, and with that, I walk away from my wife and to the arms of the woman who has been my companion for the past few months. "I will ensure her medical expenses are covered, and when she wakes up, I will ask her for the divorce if she doesn't beat me to it," I say, kissing her forehead. I feel a tap on my shoulder. Turning, I see a paramedic waiting to ask a few questions. "She has no medical conditions other than her pregnancy; I don't know how far along she is. I'll call later to cover any and all costs associated with her care. I don't wish to be updated. Do what you can to save her life." I turn and walk away. This is how she would want it, I tell myself. I don't care to stay and watch as she is put into the ambulance. This will hopefully be the last I will have to see her. Pulling out my phone, I dial Ameila's mother's number. " Hey, Anna. Listen, I need you to go to the hospital. Amelia was hit by a car. Yeah, no, she doesn't want to see me right now." I inwardly sigh as Anna goes on about how I should be the one there. I am Amelia's husband, after all. I can't bear to tell Anna what happened. She's too sweet. "I'll meet you there later. I have a few things I need to take care of for Amelia before I can head there. Yes, I promise I'll be there. Love you too, Anna. Ok, bye." I groan, hanging up and seeing my secretary looking at me like she's going to cry. "Can you call my lawyer and ask when he can meet about divorce papers?" I asked my secretary. Seeing her lite up makes me smile. God, this woman does things to me that I just can't explain. Anna's POV Hanging up with Trey, I sigh. I suspected Amelia might be expecting, but I hadn't said anything. I know how hard she had been trying to get pregnant. How much Trey had been pressuring her on the subject? How he had pulled away the last few months and how emotional she had been. If Amelia is expecting and it goes to term, she will end up with more changes than she realizes. For centuries, the women of our family have had to hide who we truly are. After giving birth for the first time, our powers emerge. Something about being in labor triggers it. I call out to my husband, Mike, telling him that we must get to the hospital. "What happened?" he calls out. "It's Amelia, we have to go. Trey said he would meet us there later." I reply. Quickly slipping on my shoes, I grab my keys and meet Mike at the door. "Ready?" he asks. Nodding as we head out the door, I quickly pray that she is fine and that my powers will be enough to help should I get the chance to use them without anyone noticing. As we pull up at the hospital, I look at Mike and see he is trying to hide his nervousness. Not knowing what to expect is hard on both of us. Squeezing his hand, I turn off the car. Going into the ER, I ask the front desk where I can find Amelia and head to her room. Upon entering the small room, I freeze. My poor, sweet girl is hooked up to a bunch of machines. From here, I can feel her hanging on to her life, not wanting to die but not wanting to live. Feeling her struggle, I let out a sob. I'm unsure what happened, but I know it wasn't good. I stand frozen as the doctor walks in. "Are you next of kin?" he asks. "I'm her mother. Her husband isn't here yet. Do you know what happened?" I reply, watching as he checks on Amelia. "Well, I don't know the details surrounding the accident, but we know she was hit by a car. Her baby is fine, and other than a concussion, she is fine, but for reasons we can't fully explain, she won't wake up," the doctor says. "How far along is she?" I ask. "As far as we can tell, she is around 3 months pregnant. Are there any other questions that I can answer for you?" "No, I think that's all we really need to know. Do you mind if we have a few minutes alone with her?" Mike answers. The doctor nods his head as he slips out of the room. "Mike, call Trey and figure out what exactly happened. He didn't really answer my questions. He might be more forthcoming with you. I'm going to see what I can do, but if she isn't willing to let me heal her, there is only so much I can do," I say. Mike nods and calls Trey while I use my powers to see the extent of her injuries. All I can feel is the concussion and heartache, as the doctor mentioned. Whatever it was that happened, it broke her heart, and it was Trey's fault. "Anna," Mike says. Looking at him, I can tell it's not good. "He cheated on her. He's filing for a divorce once Amelia is out of the hospital. That's what caused the accident." Mike says carefully, knowing that if he shows how angry he is about the situation, it will trigger my anger, and that wouldn't be good. The lights start flickering, and the alarms on the machines connected to Amelia start going off. I take a deep breath and calm myself. Looking over at Amelia, I wish I could take the pain away from her, but I know that nothing I could do would bring her back to us. If she wakes up, it will have to be her choice. I hope she chooses soon. The baby in her belly will need a mother.
