Chapter Twenty-Two Ruth groaned as she sat down on the rock. Okay, it was really a pebble, but it sure seemed like a huge rock to her at the moment. Her feet hurt, she was thirsty, and somehow she had ended up back at the stupid well where this huge misadventure had started. She reached down, removed her boots, and wiggled her toes. “Well, not a huge misadventure,” Ruth murmured, so exhausted that she could barely manage a saucy tone, but the corner of her lips quirked as she amused herself with the irony. She sighed tiredly. The sound of a soft chuckle caused Ruth to release a startled squeak and she fell off the pebble into the grass. She grunted when she hit the ground.
