Distorted memories

2009 Words
I was with two of my greatest friends, Ezra, a boy with beautiful, vibrant red hair and charming green eyes, and Silas, a some-what short boy with almost pure white fluffy blond hair and sparkly blue eyes. We were at a park going on rides and playing minigames that were spread-out around the park. “Hey guys!” Silas tapping me and Ezra's shoulders. “Look!” He pointed to a cotton candy stand with sparkles in his eyes. “Cotton candy does sound good right about now.” I said as we started walking over to the stand. Once we had made it there, we bought some of the fluffy, soft cotton candy that came in two colors, light pink and light blue. I chose blue and so did Ezra, Silas chose pink. We continued walking through the park while eating our cotton candy when suddenly I got a strange feeling that something dangerous was watching us, stalking us, observing us. I glanced around looking to see if anything was there, but I didn’t see anything. “Are you okay, Odin?” Asked Ezra, noticing that I was a bit nervous. “Yeah, I’m fine.” I said looking at my friends who were in front of me. “Okay, just wanted to be sure.” Said Ezra as we continued walking. Eventually, we found a ride that looked like fun. “We should go on that ride! It looks super fun!” I said pointing to a large rollercoaster with a couple of loops and a decently sized drop named “Thunder Crusher” or something like that. “ That does look like a lot of fun!” Said Silas swiftly throwing away his cotton candy trash and getting in line. Both me and Ezra threw our trash away and got in line to get on the ride with Silas. However, while I was waiting in line, I saw something out of the corner of my eye. I took off my glasses and wiped them on my shirt and noticed it was gone. ‘Must have just been a smudge’ I thought to myself as the line moved. We all talked as the line moved closer and closer to the gates to get on the ride. We noticed that there were only two people per seat. “I’m going to go sit in the back!” Said Silas excitedly skipping over to the back of the blue, metal carts. Me and Ezra sat closer to the front of the carts. We got buckled in and the bar was pushed down onto our laps with a click to signify that it was locked in place and ready to go. The carts began climbing up the tall drop, making a clicking sound as it went up. We reached the top and began flying down the slope and all around the metal track while my long-ish fluffy light brown hair blew in the wind. The ride soon stopped and we got off and waited for Silas by the exit, but he never got off the ride, in fact, when we looked at his seat in the back, he wasn’t even there. We began to get more and more worried as the time went by and he never came through the exit. I don’t remember how long, but it was enough to make us worry. “Have you seen a short-ish boy with almost pure white blond hair and blue eyes?” I asked one of the people who was working the ride. “Well, I think I saw someone who fit that description get on, but don’t remember them getting off. Did you get separated from them?” The worker asked. “Yeah, we did. He went on the ride with us but now we can’t find him.” I said hoping he could help. “I can have the other workers keep an eye out for him.” The worker said helpfully. “That would be great! We’ll be sitting on that bench out there waiting for him!” I waved to the worker as me and Ezra walked towards the bench at the end of the ride. We took a seat on the bench and began waiting for Silas to be found. “Even if Silas does get distracted easily, it’s not like him to just wander off like that, I hope he’s okay.” Ezra said to me looking really worried about Silas. “Yeah, I know, I hope he’s okay too.” I responded looking down at my lap while my mind wandered about all the possibilities that could’ve happened to Silas. ‘Was he kidn*pped? Did he fall off the ride? Did get lost after he got off the ride? But no one saw him get off the ride, so that rules out both k********g and getting lost. But then what happened to him?’ I thought and thought until someone walked up to us. “The park is closing, you guys need to leave.” Said a man. I looked up to see a park security telling us we had to leave. It was getting dark at this point and still no Silas. “Did you find our friend? The kid with almost white blond hair and blue eyes?” I asked hopefully. “Sorry kid, there has been no sign of him. Maybe he went home early.” The park security told us. “But he didn’t even get off the ride we went on before his disappearance!” I said with worried tears in my eyes. “Well I’m sorry, but you guys still have to leave.” The park security said to us while leading us out of the park. I got into the passenger's side of Ezra’s car and he began driving me home. While he drove I looked out the window. Silas had been my best friend since first grade and now I might never see him again. Wait, was it first grade? I can’t remember. I couldn’t stop thinking about all the worst case scenarios but had no real explanation for his disappearance. It shouldn’t have even happened, he was on a rollercoaster, completely strapped in and locked in, it would be nearly impossible for anything to happen to him, even if he unbuckled himself, there was still the bar holding him in. So what did happen to him? I thought about Silas and what happened a lot. Even now as a 23 year old, or at least I think I am 23 or was. I do think about him less, but I do still think about him. He was never found even after * years. I was sitting on my desk chair looking at my computer screen not doing much when I came across an article titled ‘What happened to ‘ well actually, I forgot what it was titled but I recognized it as the amusement park I used to go to when I was a teen with my friends. Anyways, I found out that the amusement park was abandoned, then called Ezra and asked him if he remembered the amusement park, and he did! Wait, did he? Actually, I think I had to remind him. I then asked If he wanted to check out what was left of it and he said that sounded like a pretty good idea so we packed and went. We arrived and noticed that the sign was all faded and we couldn’t even read it. “I wonder when and why this place was shut down.” I said half to myself as we stepped through a hole in the chain fence, or was it a wooden fence? My head is starting to hurt. “I don’t know, it probably wasn’t making enough money to stay running.” Ezra responded while following me. We started walking around the amusement park while looking at all the abandoned rides and buildings. Then we came up to ‘***************’ . Its sign was still intact for the most part, as in I could read it. “This is where Silas went missing right?” Asked Ezra looking up at the sign. “I believe so.” I responded while also looking up at the sign. We walked around the coaster until something caught my eye. It looked slightly transparent and wasn’t there long. “Did you see that?” I asked Ezra. “See what?” He asked me back. “I don’t know, it was kind of transparent.” I told him. “Well, I saw something out of the corner of my eye, but I thought it was my imagination.” Responded Ezra. We continued walking around when I felt something behind me and the air went cold. I jerked around to look behind me and saw a young looking boy who had almost white fluffy hair and blue eyes that appeared to have lost their sparkle. His clothing was ripped and tattered and his body was covered in b****y scratches and bruises. “Silas!?” I said as I looked at him, surprise and fear in my voice. “What happened to you?” I said as I looked him in the face. At this point Ezra was turned around also looking at “Silas” with shock in his eyes. Did this even happen? “Odin! Ezra! You came back for me!” “Silas” jumped towards us. I was able to see his injuries better now that he was closer, and one thing I noticed was: they were not made by a human. They appeared to have been made by a large animal with sharp claws. “Were you attacked by an animal?” I asked “Silas”. “Silas” thought for a moment. “I guess you could say that, but I wouldn’t necessarily call it that. It was more like a monster, like the kind you would see in movies or hear about in books.” Man, my head is killing me! “Is that how you disappeared off the roller coaster?” Ezra asked “Silas”. “The monster grabbed me right off the ride and dragged me through the forest that was below. That’s all I remember, it’s all blurry after that.” “Silas” explained doing his best to remember all the details. “I also can’t leave this place, I’ve been trapped here alone for years.” He added with a sad tone in his voice. “We could visit you every so often.” I said, hoping to cheer him up a bit. “It would be too dangerous, the monster is still around. It’s dangerous for you guys to even be here.” “Silas” said while glancing around to make sure the monster was not near. “Well at least we know where you are now.” Ezra smiled, trying to lighten the mood. “I guess that is true!” Responded “Silas” now smiling a little. I can barely move my hand any more, my head hurts so bad! “Well, we gotta go now, we could probably visit you at the fence.” I said turning to leave. “Wait, which way did we come in again?” I asked myself outloud. “I don’t know, I can’t remember. My head starts to hurt when I think about it.” Ezra responded, holding his head. I don’t remember what happened after that, it’s all just a blur. My head is pounding! I don’t remember any of this actually, the amusement park, “**************”. Did it even… happen? Where... am I? I think I used to know but I don’t anymore. Were my friends named Ezra and Silas? Did they even… Exist? Am I 23? Or do I just feel 23? How long have I been here? I know, or at least I think, I wrote all of this but… did this even happen? Who… am I?
