CHAPTER 2: GRANDMA'S FAVORITE
Clause 3: Separate bedrooms.
Grandma Cha: In my house, married people sleep in one room.
---
Part 1: THE CONTRACT SIGNING
10:00 AM. Law Firm. 50th Floor Seoul.
Ji-woo’s hands were sweating.
The pen felt heavy.
CONTRACT MARRIAGE AGREEMENT
Between Cha Do-yoon and Park Ji-woo
Clause 1: Duration: 12 months
Clause 2: Attend all family events as wife
Clause 3: Separate bedrooms. No physical contact.
Clause 4: Monthly allowance: ₩5,000,000
Clause 5: No dating. No falling in love.
Clause 6: After 12 months, divorce. No claims.
₩5,000,000.
That was more than her family made in a year.
Do-yoon sat next to her in a black suit. He hadn’t looked at her once.
"Sign," he said quietly.
Ji-woo signed.
Park Ji-woo.
Shaky handwriting.
Do-yoon signed.
Cha Do-yoon.
Sharp. Fast. Like it meant nothing.
The lawyer smiled. "Congratulations. You’re legally married."
Ji-woo felt nothing.
Until Do-yoon put a small ring box in her hand.
"For the photos," he said. "Take it off when we’re alone."
The ring was simple. Platinum.
It was too big.
"Let’s go," Do-yoon said. "Grandma is waiting."
---
Part 2: MEETING HALMONI CHA
3:00 PM. Cha Family Mansion. Hannam-dong.
The house was huge. Like a palace.
Gardeners. Guards. A fountain.
Ji-woo wanted to throw up.
Do-yoon squeezed her hand once before they went in.
"Act normal," he whispered.
"I don’t know what normal is for chaebols," she whispered back.
The doors opened.
And there she was.
Madam Cha Soon-ja. 75.
Hair in a neat bun. Hanbok but with diamond earrings.
Eyes sharp like a hawk.
She looked at Ji-woo.
From her cheap sneakers to her borrowed coat.
Then at the basket.
Ji-woo was still holding it. She forgot.
"What is this?" Halmoni asked.
"Eggs," Ji-woo said. Voice small. "From my halmoni’s farm... in Gangwon-do."
The room went silent.
Then Halmoni Cha burst out laughing.
"AIGO! Finally! A real girl! Not like those plastic surgery ones!"
She grabbed Ji-woo’s face with both hands.
"Pretty! And natural! Do-yoon-ah, where did you find her?"
Do-yoon cleared his throat. "She... we met. She helped me."
"Liar," Halmoni said. But she was smiling.
She pulled Ji-woo into a hug. She smelled like ginseng and power.
"Come, come. Let me feed you. You’re too skinny! How will you give me great-grandchildren?"
Do-yoon choked.
"Halmoni—"
"What? I’m old! I want to see my great-grandson before I die!"
Dinner was 12 dishes.
Ji-woo didn’t know half of them.
Halmoni kept putting galbi on her plate.
"Eat! Eat! You need strength for my grandson!"
Do-yoon kicked her under the table.
Ji-woo kicked him back.
After dinner, Halmoni pulled Ji-woo to her room.
"My dear," she said, holding Ji-woo’s hands. "Do-yoon is a good boy. But he’s cold because he’s been hurt."
"Hurt?"
"His ex. 3 years ago. She left him for his best friend. On their wedding day."
Ji-woo’s chest hurt.
"So please," Halmoni said. "Don’t break him. He needs someone warm. Like you."
Ji-woo nodded.
But inside: Clause 5. No falling in love.
---
Part 3: THE PENTHOUSE RULES
8:00 PM. Cha Penthouse. 60th Floor.
The apartment was all white and glass.
It looked at the whole of Seoul.
Do-yoon showed her around.
"This is your room. Mine is down the hall. The housekeeper is Mrs. Kim. Don’t cook. Don’t leave without security. Don’t talk to reporters."
He paused.
"And Ji-woo-ssi. Don’t fall in love with me."
Ji-woo rolled her eyes. "Cha CEO, I just met you. Calm down."
He almost smiled. Almost.
"Good night, Mrs. Cha."
"Good night, Cha CEO."
Ji-woo locked the door.
And cried.
Not sad tears. Overwhelmed tears.
She called Halmoni in Gangwon-do.
"Halmoni, I... I got married."
Silence.
"To WHO?!"
"A... a good man. He’s rich. He’s taking care of me."
Halmoni screamed. "DAUGHTER-IN-LAW OF A CHAEBAOL?! AIGO!!"
Ji-woo didn’t tell her it was fake.
Not yet.
---
Part 4: THE FIRST FIGHT
Next morning. 7:00 AM. Kitchen.
Ji-woo was making ramen.
Because she missed home.
Because she was hungry.
Mrs. Kim gasped. "Madam! Let me do it!"
"I can do it," Ji-woo said.
Water boiled over. She yelped.
Do-yoon walked in.
Perfect suit. Perfect hair. Perfect scowl.
"What are you doing?"
"Cooking," Ji-woo said.
"This isn’t your countryside kitchen," he snapped. "You’ll set off the fire alarm."
Ji-woo turned off the stove.
"You don’t have to be mean."
"I’m not mean. I’m practical. You’re my wife. Act like it."
"How? By sitting pretty?"
"By not causing problems," he said.
Ji-woo threw the spoon in the sink.
"You know what, Cha Do-yoon? Maybe I don’t want to be your wife."
Do-yoon went still.
"Too late," he said quietly. "You signed."
He walked out.
Mrs. Kim touched Ji-woo’s shoulder. "Madam... he’s like that to everyone. His heart is just... frozen."
But Ji-woo did mind.
Because for 1 second, she thought he was worried about the fire.

Part 5: MIN-HO SEES HER
7:00 PM. Cha Group Charity Gala. Shilla Hotel.
Do-yoon said they had to go.
"Photos. Grandma will see them."
So Ji-woo wore the dress they gave her.
White. Silk. Simple but expensive.
She looked like a different person in the mirror.
Do-yoon came to get her.
He stopped when he saw her.
"You look..."
"What?"
"Nothing. Let’s go."
The ballroom was full of cameras.
And Min-ho.
With his new girlfriend.
A girl in Chanel.
He saw Ji-woo.
And froze.
"Ji-woo?"
"Hello, Min-ho oppa," she said. Her voice didn’t shake.
Do-yoon put an arm around her waist.
"My wife," Do-yoon said. Cold. "Park Ji-woo Cha."
Min-ho’s face went through everything.
Shock. Anger. Regret.
"Wife?" he laughed. "Since when? Last week you were begging me—"
"Watch it," Do-yoon said. Quiet but dangerous.
Min-ho looked at Ji-woo. "You moved on fast."
"You moved on first," Ji-woo said.
The girlfriend pulled Min-ho away.
But he looked back.
Twice.
In the car, Do-yoon was silent.
Then: "You okay?"
"Yeah," Ji-woo said. "Better than okay."
Because for the first time, she didn’t feel like the country girl with eggs.
She felt like Mrs. Cha.
---
Part 6: THE ACCIDENTAL TOUCH
11:00 PM. Back home.
There was a knock.
Do-yoon.
With a first aid kit.
"I saw your hand," he said. "From the hot water."
"It’s fine."
"Let me see."
He took her hand.
Put ointment on the small burn.
His fingers were careful.
Too careful.
"Don’t cook again," he said.
"Don’t tell me what to do," Ji-woo said.
Do-yoon sighed. "You’re stubborn."
"You’re cold."
They stared at each other.
"Good night, Ji-woo-ssi," he said.
"Good night, Do-yoon-ssi."
He left.
And Ji-woo touched her hand where he touched her.
Clause 5: No falling in love.
She was already in trouble.
