CHAPTER 3: ONE WEEK WITH HALMONI Clause 3: Separate bedrooms. Halmoni Cha: In this house, we break stupid rules. --- Part 1: THE PHONE CALL 6:00 AM. Ji-woo’s room. Ji-woo’s phone rang. Unknown number. "Yeoboseyo? Mrs. Cha?" "Ne?" "This is Halmoni’s driver. Halmoni said she’s coming in 1 hour. She wants to see how you and Do-yoon-ssi are living as husband and wife." The call ended. Ji-woo SCREAMED into her blanket. Do-yoon was already in the kitchen drinking americano when she ran down. "Halmoni is coming," Ji-woo said. "I know," he said. Calm. "YOU KNEW??" "She texted me last night. Said she wants to 'inspect the marriage'." Ji-woo was panicking. "We don’t sleep in the same room! We fought over ramen! We barely talk!" Do-yoon put his cup down. "Then we pretend better." He pulled out his phone. "Mrs. Kim, clean the guest room. And make galbi-jjim. Halmoni is coming." He hung up. "Rule 1: We act like a normal married couple. Rule 2: No mentioning the contract. Rule 3: If she asks, we’re 'very much in love'." Ji-woo nodded. Her heart was beating fast. Because pretending was starting to feel real. --- Part 2: HALMONI INSPECTION 7:30 AM. Front door. Halmoni came with 3 suitcases. And a shaman. "For fertility blessing," she said, hugging Ji-woo. "So you give me great-grandson fast!" Do-yoon’s eye twitched. "Halmoni." "What? I’m 75! I don’t have time!" She walked through the penthouse. Opened everything. Ji-woo’s closet. "Good. My grandson has taste. This white dress was perfect for the gala." Do-yoon’s room. Ji-woo’s room. Separate. Halmoni frowned. "Why are your rooms so far?" "Privacy, Halmoni," Do-yoon said fast. "Married people don’t need privacy," Halmoni said. "They need babies." Do-yoon coughed. Ji-woo wanted to disappear. Lunch: Galbi-jjim, kimchi, rice, 6 banchan. Halmoni watched them eat. "Feed each other," she said. Ji-woo and Do-yoon stared at each other. "Do it," Halmoni said. Do-yoon picked up galbi and held it to Ji-woo’s mouth. She took a bite. "Now you," she whispered. She fed him kimchi. Their fingers touched. And Ji-woo felt that stupid spark. Halmoni clapped. "Aigo! So sweet!" --- Part 3: MIN-HO TEXTS 3:00 PM. Balcony. Ji-woo needed air. Halmoni was napping. Do-yoon was in meetings. Her phone buzzed. Unknown: Ji-woo-ya, it’s me. Min-ho. Can we talk? I messed up. Please. Her chest hurt. Another text: I saw you at the gala. You look beautiful. I’m happy for you. But I miss you. She deleted it. But her hands were shaking. "Who’s that?" Do-yoon. Behind her. He’d seen the screen. "Nobody," Ji-woo said. "Don’t lie to me," he said. Not cold. Just tired. "It’s Min-ho." Do-yoon’s jaw tightened. "What did he want?" "To talk." Do-yoon took her phone. Blocked the number. Gave it back. "He doesn’t get to hurt you twice." He walked away. And Ji-woo stood there wondering why her heart felt warm. --- Part 4: THE FAKE KISS 6:00 PM. Business Dinner. Lotte Hotel. Do-yoon had to go. "Come," he said. "Paparazzi will be there. We need to look real." Halmoni insisted on coming too. "In my wheelchair," she said. "For effect." The event was full of CEOs. And gossip. "That’s Cha Do-yoon. He married suddenly." "Who’s the girl? She looks... simple." Do-yoon heard it. He pulled Ji-woo closer. His hand on her waist. A reporter came up. "Cha CEO! How did you meet your wife?" Do-yoon smiled. The fake one. "We met the old-fashioned way," he said. "She saved me." The reporter laughed. "From what?" "From myself," Do-yoon said. And looked at Ji-woo. For a second Ji-woo forgot it was fake. Then cameras flashed. "Can we get a picture? Together?" Do-yoon turned to Ji-woo. "Ji-woo-ssi." "Ne?" "Kiss me." Ji-woo’s eyes went wide. "What?" "For the cameras," he whispered. "Halmoni is watching." Ji-woo nodded. And he kissed her. It was soft. Brief. His lips were warm. And he smelled like his cologne. The cameras went crazy. Halmoni was clapping from her wheelchair. When he pulled back, Ji-woo’s face was red. "Good job," he whispered. "Ne... yeah," she whispered back. But her lips were still tingling. --- Part 5: THE TRUTH ABOUT DO-YOON 10:00 PM. Back home. Halmoni was tired. "Come sit with me, my daughter," she said. They sat on the balcony. Seoul lights below. "Do-yoon is a good boy," she said. "But he’s broken." "Broken?" "His ex-fiancée. 3 years ago. She cheated on him with his best friend. Left him at the altar. Took company secrets too." Ji-woo’s chest squeezed. "Since then, he doesn’t trust anyone. Especially women. He thinks we all want his money." Halmoni patted Ji-woo’s hand. "Don’t prove her right, okay? He needs someone real. Someone warm. Like you." Ji-woo nodded. But inside: Clause 5. No falling in love. Too late. --- Part 6: RAIN SCENE 11:30 PM. Ji-woo couldn’t sleep. So she went to the kitchen for water. Do-yoon was there. No suit. Just white shirt and black pants. Hair messy. "Can’t sleep?" he asked. "Aniyo." "Me neither." Silence. Then it started raining. Hard. Ji-woo went to the window. "Rain," she whispered. "Ya," Do-yoon said. "You’re staring." Ji-woo turned. "What?" "Nothing." He walked to her. Took off his jacket. Put it over her shoulders. "It’s cold." The jacket was warm. And smelled like him. "Thank you," Ji-woo whispered. "Don’t mention it," Do-yoon said. They stood there. Watching the rain. Shoulders touching. "Do-yoon-ssi," Ji-woo said. "Ne?" "Thank you. For today. For blocking Min-ho. For... everything." Do-yoon looked at her. For a long time. "Don’t thank me," he said quietly. "Just... don’t leave." Ji-woo’s heart stopped. "Okay," she whispered. He nodded and went to his room. Ji-woo touched the jacket. And cried. Because the fake kiss felt too real. And because she was already breaking Clause 5. --- END OF CHAPTER 3 --- writed by Omahcbeauty THE TENSION!! THE RAIN SCENE!! THE JACKET!!
