CHAPTER 5: JEJU ISLAND TRIP
Clause 2: Attend all business events as wife.
Reality: Only one hotel room left.
---
Part 1: THE BUSINESS TRIP
6:00 AM. Gimpo Airport.
"Pack a bag," Do-yoon said yesterday. "We’re going to Jeju for 2 days."
"Why me?"
"Because you’re my wife. And the client wants to meet 'Mrs. Cha'."
So here Ji-woo was.
In a beige trench coat they bought her.
Looking like a real CEO wife.
The flight was 1 hour.
Do-yoon worked on his laptop the whole time.
Ji-woo just watched the clouds.
When they landed, the driver was waiting.
"Mr. Cha, Mrs. Cha. The resort is 40 minutes."
The resort was on the beach.
White. Luxurious.
And packed.
"There’s a problem," the manager said. Bowing.
"What?" Do-yoon asked.
"We’re overbooked. We only have one suite left."
Ji-woo and Do-yoon looked at each other.
"Fine," Do-yoon said. "We’ll take it."
Ji-woo’s stomach flipped.
One room. Again.
---
Part 2: THE ONE SUITE
3:00 PM. Suite 1201.
It was huge.
Ocean view.
King bed.
One bathroom.
Ji-woo put her bag down.
Do-yoon was already on calls.
"You take the bed," he said without looking up. "I’ll sleep on the couch."
"Are you sure?"
"I’m always sure."
But the "couch" was a small sofa.
He was too tall for it.
Ji-woo didn’t say anything.
Afternoon meeting.
Evening dinner with clients.
Ji-woo smiled and bowed and said "ne" a lot.
She did good.
Do-yoon squeezed her hand under the table once.
"Good job," he whispered.
---
Part 3: DRUNK DO-YOON
10:00 PM. Back in the suite.
The client made them drink soju.
A lot of soju.
Do-yoon never gets drunk.
But tonight he did.
He came in, loosened his tie, and collapsed on the couch.
"Ugh," he groaned.
Ji-woo brought water.
"Here, Cha CEO."
Do-yoon looked at her. Eyes glassy.
"Ji-woo-ssi," he said.
"Ne?"
"You’re... you’re different."
"Different how?"
"Warm. You’re warm. Everyone else is cold."
Ji-woo’s heart stopped.
"Don’t say things like that when you’re drunk."
"I’m not drunk," he said. Then burped. "Okay maybe a little."
He sat up. Too fast.
And fell.
Right into Ji-woo.
She caught him.
And he didn’t let go.
His head on her shoulder.
"Do-yoon-ssi?"
"Shh," he mumbled. "Just 5 minutes. You smell like home."
Ji-woo froze.
Because his arms were around her waist.
And he was warm.
And he smelled like soju and cologne.
5 minutes turned to 10.
Ji-woo didn’t move.
Finally he pulled back.
Eyes still drunk but clearer.
"Did I... did I say anything weird?"
"Ne," Ji-woo said honestly.
Do-yoon groaned and covered his face. "Kill me."
Ji-woo laughed.
The first real laugh she’d had with him.
"You’re cute when you’re drunk."
Do-yoon peeked through his fingers. "Don’t tell anyone."
"I won’t," Ji-woo promised.
---
Part 4: THE JEALOUSY SCENE
Next day. 11:00 AM. Beach Resort Meeting.
The client brought their VP.
A woman.
30s. Perfect. Red dress. Red lips.
"Cha CEO," she said, smiling. Too much.
"Ms. Han," Do-yoon nodded. Professional.
The whole meeting she touched his arm.
"Oh Do-yoon-ssi, you’re so smart."
"Let me pour you more coffee."
"Can I sit next to you?"
Ji-woo sat there. Smiling.
But her hands were in fists.
After the meeting, Ms. Han cornered Do-yoon by the pool.
Ji-woo saw it from the balcony.
"Do-yoon-ssi, we should celebrate the deal. Just us. Dinner?"
Do-yoon looked up.
And saw Ji-woo.
He walked away from Ms. Han.
Straight to Ji-woo.
Grabbed her hand.
"We already have dinner plans," he said. "With my wife."
He pulled Ji-woo away.
In the elevator, Ji-woo yanked her hand away.
"That was unnecessary."
"Was it?" Do-yoon asked.
"Yes! I’m not a prop!"
"Then stop looking like you want to kill someone," Do-yoon snapped.
"I don’t—"
"You do. Your face was red."
Ji-woo went silent.
Because he was right.
"Are you... jealous?" Do-yoon asked. Quiet.
"Aniyo!" Ji-woo said too fast.
"Good," Do-yoon said. But he looked... happy?
---
Part 5: THE SAVE
7:00 PM. Cliff Walk.
They went for a walk to clear their heads.
The ocean was loud.
Wind was strong.
Ji-woo was looking at the sunset.
Beautiful.
She stepped too close to the edge.
A big wave crashed.
She slipped.
"JI-WOO!!"
Do-yoon grabbed her wrist.
Pulled her back hard.
Into his chest.
Both of them breathing hard.
"Are you crazy?" he yelled. First time he’d yelled at her.
"I’m sorry! I didn’t—"
"Don’t do that again! Don’t you dare!"
He was shaking.
From anger. Or fear.
Ji-woo looked up at him.
"Thank you... for saving me."
Do-yoon stared down at her.
Rain started.
Light rain.
He didn’t let go of her wrist.
"Don’t make me save you again," he whispered.
"I’ll try," Ji-woo whispered back.
The rain got harder.
Do-yoon took off his jacket.
Put it over her head.
And pulled her under it with him.
They ran back to the hotel.
Sharing one jacket.
Hands linked.
---
Part 6: NIGHT 2. JEJU.
11:00 PM. Back in the suite.
Wet. Cold.
They changed in the bathroom.
Came out in robes.
The bed looked huge.
And empty.
Do-yoon sighed. "The couch is wet."
"From the rain," Ji-woo said.
"Yeah."
Silence.
"Do you... want to share the bed?" Do-yoon asked. Not looking at her.
"Only if you don’t kick me," Ji-woo said.
"I don’t kick."
"Good."
They got in.
On top of the blanket.
Far apart.
But this time, when Ji-woo turned,
Do-yoon was already looking at her.
"Do-yoon-ssi," she whispered.
"Ne?"
"Today... thank you. For holding my hand. For the jacket. For saving me."
Do-yoon reached out.
Brushed wet hair from her face.
His fingers lingered.
"Don’t fall off cliffs," he said softly.
"I won’t."
"And... don’t be jealous of Ms. Han."
Ji-woo’s face went red. "I wasn’t!"
"You were," Do-yoon said. And smiled.
A real smile.
Small. But real.
Ji-woo’s heart did something stupid.
"Good night, Ji-woo-ssi," Do-yoon whispered.
"Good night, Do-yoon-ssi."
And this time, when she fell asleep,
She wasn’t scared.
