Chapter 3

1303 Words
Staring in shock and wonder at the boy, no man, she absentmindedly corrected herself, as he settled into the chair across from her with a soft “Hey Amelia.” Pictures of, what feels like a thousand years ago, flashed before her eyes. A time, one wonderful and amazing summer when she was HAPPY and knew FUN. A boy with the darkest curls surrounding his face and a laughter that more contagious than anything she had ever known. A soft finger, tracing the lines of her face, from her cheekbone to her jaw, brought her back to the reality of the club. “You still here?” “Yes, sorry, I kind off spaced out there for a moment.” “I saw that.” A dimple in his right cheek, exactly as she remembers it, with the soft curling of his lips in a smile. “It really is you! Wow!” The last word was more a breathing sound than a word. “I take it, you still remember?” Pulling down the neck of his shirt, he revealed a necklace, the old elastic band that she remembers has been replaced with a true silver chain, more manly, but at the bottom hand one half of a star. Pulling down her dress slightly she lifts up a soft elastic band. “Off course I remember! O my! Ethan!” Suddenly she couldn’t see, she didn’t even realize that there were tears rolling down her cheeks until he shifted in besides her, pushing a handkerchief into her hands, pulling her against his chest. “ Hey its okay Beautiful! It’s okay, I promise!” A hand was rubbing up and down her arms, softly, and slowly, stroking her. It must have been his touch that brought her back to reality again. “Your hands are still as cold as back then.” A sardonic expression crossed his face before he answers her. “Ye, well, somethings never change.” It was Cassy’s voice that broke them apart. “Amy, are you okay?!” The shock and even a little bit of outrage was evident in her friend’s voice. With a quick look between her friend and Ethan, Amy could feel a blush spreading across her cheeks. “O yes, sorry. Cassy, this is Ethan. Ethan, Cassy. Cassy, I use to know Ethan back when I was twelve!” “O..kay. And the tears?” Her eyes were still looking at Ethan suspiciously. “O... it’s just, seeing him, it kind off took me by surprise.” With a small apologetic smile towards Ethan for her friend’s behavior. Ethan gave her hand a gentle, reassuring squeeze, before going to Cassy, extending his hand. “It’s good to meet you. Glad to see Amelia has such good friends that cares about her so much.” His disarming smile was working wonders on making Cassy more comfortable and she quickly sat down, smiling herself. “Amelia? Gosh, you must have known her a long time ago if you still call her that! All of us, we know her as Amy.” A strange dark look came into his eyes while looking at Amy. “For me, she’ll always be Amelia. Now, if you’ll ladies will excuse me, this club won’t run itself. Amy, can I get you anything to drink? Then I’ll be back in a few.” “Uhm, yes, a mock tail maybe?” Nodding with a smile once again showing his dimple, he disappeared into the crowd. “Wow girl! You never told me you know such a handsome man! Dermn! And him OWNING THE CLUB!” “Maybe, it’s because I didn’t know I knew someone like him?” “Well, now you got to spill! How  DO you know him?” “Well we met when his dad got married to my mum’s sister. That’s a summer that I love to think back on, but we were just kids.” Unconsciously her hand had traveled up to her neck to grab the necklace. “What’s that? O, that necklace you never take off! That OLD one? Wait! Don’t tell me, he GAVE it to you?! And you were just kids?! Wow!” Cassy’s eyes were shinning with excitement, it was clear that all of this had her thinking all kinds of unwanted things. Things Amy definitely did not want her to be thinking. Ethan was probably just being kind; he did disappear for so many years after all! Meeting her, it just happened, it doesn’t mean anything and having Cassy so excited, it won’t work when her heart breaks again, like it had done years ago! Quickly changing the subject, Amy glanced around, “What happened to erm, Anthony?” “O, he didn’t like it when I kissed and suggested a threesome with Connor, so they both seem to have taken off.” Cassy shrugged, apparently not caring that they had received a few weirded glances at her words. Just then, Ethan appeared again with Amy’s drink. “E... you want me to stay or go girl?” With a faint blush again, Amy glanced at Ethan before looking down at the table, drawing patterns with her fingers. Even Ethan had paused, letting her assess and make a choice. “I’m good, thanks hun. Go enjoy your dance, have fun for me.” “Okay, but send me a message if I need to get you an uber, Kay? Make sure you have your phone with you at ALL TIMES!” “Yes Mum!” “Lol, love you girl, and we’ll talk again tomorrow if I don’t see you again tonight, Kay? And I’ll tell Emily not to look for you.” With a last thoughtful glance between the two, Cassy walked to the dance floor, where she promptly grabbed Marcus’s hand and started dancing with him. With a raised eyebrow to Ethan, unnoticed by the girls the two communicated. When Ethan nodded, he turned his attention to Cassy, enjoying the way the girl was rubbing against him. Settling across from Amy, he watched her in silence while she drank the mocktail he had brought her, only speaking again after she was finished. “What if we followed your friend’s suggestion and went to my place? There’s a lot I’d like to talk to you about.” Seeing her look of consternation and the way she quickly looked around, he grabbed her hand. Somehow the way he was looking at her, forced her to meet his eye. “Just talk, we don’t have to do anything else. But if you want to stay we can do that to? Even dance if you want? It’s just so crowded and bound to get worse and I can barely hear you above the noise, so maybe coffee at my place or yours?” Meeting his eyes, seeing the sincerity there, Amy found herself nodding, then remembering her small apartment, she winced. “Erm, your place might be better.” Allowing him to take her hand and lead her from the club, glancing over her shoulder she caught Cassy’s eye as well as the stranger from earlier that had rescued her from the greasy man. Cassy winked and waved, making Amy blush, knowing what her friend was thinking. She should know me better by now, Amy thought before focusing on where Ethan was leading her.
