Chapter 6

Lauressa made her way down the corridor with Gale supporting her by her waist. Every few steps her legs felt weak causing her to stumble. After stumbling several times, Gale let out a flustered sign before picked her up, lifting her head up to his shoulder and lifting her legs with his other arm. She tried to protest, but ultimately, she was too tired to fight back. She rested her head on his shoulder then nuzzled forward into his neck. His scent soothed her mind, calming her anxiety and her wolf within. She lifted her eyes to inspect the walls as he walked. The carpet was a deep red, cushioning each step that Gale took. The walls were a pleasant cream, complimenting the carpet well. Each oaken doorway framed a delicately carved oaken door. Each one had a golden plaque positioned in their centre, detailing the contents within. What Lauressa found to be the most fascinating part of the journey were the frames that lined the walls. Every frame contained a painting of a different historical pack member, with a golden plaque below it stating who they were and when they were alive, as well as a brief description of what their role was. Maybe I could come back and study those, Lauressa thought. The corridor came to an end as Gale made his way up some stairs, before finally stopping at one of the doors. Lauressa was able to catch a glimpse of the plaque that read ‘Guest Suite’ before Gale carried her inside. Once inside, Lauressa’s mouth hung loosely as she explored the room with her eyes. The same cream walls from the corridor had melted inside, with one wall painted red to match the plush carpet. The furniture was all oaken, except for the sofa which was black leather. All the minor decorations, from the pillows to the curtains to the coasters were the same deep red as the flooring. Even with the expressive amount of red, Lauressa felt at ease. Archibald was waiting inside the suite. He was tending to the kitchen area, pouring hot water into a teapot before loading it onto a tray. Gale carried Lauressa to the sofa, placing her down slowly as he did. His wolf whined as they parts, wanting to continue holding their mate close to their body. Gale fought against the beast to only accept taking in her scent as he let her go. Lauressa looked up to him with pleading eyes, not wanting to leave his grasp either. Their eyes locked as Gale pulled back. He paused, gazing into her grey orbs. Archibald had stopped beside him, carrying with him the tea tray ready to sit on the table. With Gale not moving to make room, Archibald rolled his eyes before clearing his throat. “Pardon, Alpha heir, may I please lay this tray down for our guest?” He said flatly. Gale adjourned his gaze from Lauressa, adjusting it to look at Archibald instead. Archibald peered down at him, his lips pursed and his hands shaking from holding the tray. “Sorry, Archibald, let me take that.” Gale replied, taking the tray from Archibald’s hands before placing it on the table. Archibald’s eyes widened; Gale had not taken a tray from him before. “Thank you for your help, Archibald, you are dismissed.” He said after, turning his attention back to Lauressa. She looked up to Archibald and nodded her head courteously, to which Archibald bowed in response, taking his leave of the suite. Gale angled his body to sit on the sofa next to Lauressa. He lifted her legs up and lowered them down on top of his lap, stroking them once they were placed. Sparks tingled along her thighs, sending shivers through her body as he slowly caressed her legs. Lauressa’s eyes were wide with concern, although her bond was pulling her closer into his embrace. “Tea?” He asked quietly, still stroking her legs. Lauressa nodded back. Gale learned forwards, holding her legs securely as he leaned forward, pouring tea into one of the cups. “Milk?” he asked, she nodded again. “Sugar?” She shook her head this time. Once he was satisfied, he passed one cup to her and collected another for himself, leaning back into the cushions and pulling her legs closer to his body. They sat in an awkward silence, taking small sips from their cups. Lauressa clasped hers with both hands, trying to suppress her shaking. Her wolf however thought the whole situation was highly amusing, much to Lauressa’s dismay. Gale held his cup with one hand, the other holding her legs in place. “Thank you, for helping me,” Lauressa said, finally breaking the silence. Gale lowered his head slightly as his lips curled upwards and his cheeks reddened. She was adorable. “It’s not an issue, I couldn’t let them touch you.” He replied, rubbing her leg as he tried to reassure her. She nodded receptively, taking more sips from her cup. Another silence ensued with the only sound being their uneasy breaths and the gulping of tea. “I guess we’re mates then,” Gale said, trying not to sound too excited as he spoke. “I guess we are,” she replied, looking up from her cup. “It’s nice to speak to you, Alpha heir Galenos.” She continued. Gale grimaced as she spoke, though his name sounded sweet on her lips, his title did not agree with him. She saw his expression and began to fluster. “I’m sorry your Grace, I didn’t mean to offend you!” She started, her body beginning to shake. Gale’s face softened as he resumed stroking her shin. “Please, you only need to call me Gale.” He cooed, seeing her features soften as well. “And you’re Lauressa?” He questioned as he looked deep into her eyes. Her heart fluttered as his gaze penetrated hers. Her wolf was also purring at his touch, enhanced by the depth of his blue eyes. “Yes…. Gale.” She replied, taking another sip from her cup. She repositioned herself, adjusting her hips ever so slightly from the angle that Gale had pulled her legs to. His wolf began to whine as she moved but waggled its tail as it realised her legs were getting closer to its human’s body. Gale had to concentrate; her legs were getting very close indeed and he didn’t want to put her off him already. He cursed his body under his breath, you’ve only just met the girl, he spat. He repositioned his hips as well, moving her legs slightly away from his groin just in case. “May I call you Laurie? I heard another wolf call you it earlier." He asked. Lauressa’s eyes widened, she hadn’t been called that for a few years, it was her parents’ pet name for her, which Felix doted on. As she had aged, Lauressa became the name that was used more frequently instead, so hearing it again warmed her heart. A smile graced her lips, to which Gale reciprocated. “Laurie it is then.” He beamed. The two finished their teas, returning the cups to the tray. They sat peacefully together, both of Gale’s hands were now on her legs and her hands were clasped neatly on her lap. They listened to one another’s breathing, focusing enough to hear their heart beats, which seemed to almost beat in sync. Gale’s eyes wandered over to the clock that was sitting on the mantelpiece, it was beginning to get late. With a heavy sigh he began to speak again. “Perhaps you should rest, Laurie, you’ve had a testing day,” he said, trying to hold back the humour in his voice. Lauressa rolled her eyes at him; she knew exactly what he was trying to say. She pulled her legs from his lap and turned in her seat. Gale swiftly got to his feet, scooping her up in his arms. “I can walk, I’m fine!” She exclaimed, trying to wiggle free of his grip. “At least let me carry out, even if its just for tonight,” he mused, sticking out his bottom lip. Lauressa puffed out her cheeks but nodded, leaning against his chest as he readjusted his hold on her. He carried her through to the bedroom, carefully placing her on the bed. The same colour scheme extended into this room as well, with the bed sheets also in black and red. He pulled up the duvet from the bottom and tucked it around her shoulders. Lauressa shuffled onto her side, pulling one arm up under her pillow to support her head. “Should I not get washed first?” She asked, a nervous smile on her lips. The wolf inside Gale’s head howled excitedly at her suggestion. Gale stuttered out a few sounds before replying. “Ah, yes, ahem, that’s a good idea.” He waltzed off, checking the bathroom to ensure that there was everything she needed. “There are towels and some toiletries here, hopefully they will do.” He asked presumptuously. Lauressa had already joined him at his side, peering through the doorway as well. “Yes, perhaps, thank you Alp… Gale.” She smiled, going into the room. She looked around a bit before turning back to him. “Could I trouble you for some pyjamas?” She enquired, not wanting to overstep her welcome. His eyebrows furrowed; he hadn’t even thought of that. “No problem, please carry on and I will get Archibald to arrange some for you.” Gale said, closing the door behind her and exiting the suite. He pulled the door closed before leaning against it, he hadn’t realised how hot he had gotten under his collar while speaking with her. His dreamy thoughts were interrupted by a familiar voice. “Hey brother,” Nik announced, leaning against the wall next to the doorway. Gale jumped, so lost in his thoughts he didn’t realise his brother was standing there. Nik grinned widely. “How is she?” He asked, though his meaning was more than just her wellbeing. Gale pouted at his question, trying to ignore his insinuating tone. “She’s good, thank you for asking. She’s just getting cleaned up,” Gale replied, trying to bat away the images of her body from his thoughts. Nik learned forward and purred in his brother’s ear. “Then why are you out here?” He said, his tone not changing. Gale nudged him in the shoulder, parting their bodies. “Goddess man, its bad enough dealing with my wolf inside trying to get at her, I don’t need you hyping him up as well.” Gale whined, the thoughts of Lauressa clouding his mind again. Nik grinned, almost evilly, as he sashayed away from his brother. Gale took a few deeps breaths before focusing his mind and he linked to Archibald. “Archibald?” “Yes, Alpha heir,” Archibald linked back. “Could you run up some nightwear for Laurie please?” “Laurie? How cute, sir.” Gale could feel Archibald’s coy tone through the link. “Well?” “Yes, right away. I will ensure Laurie has everything she needs.” He replied, repeating her name in the same coy tone but ending the mind link. Drat, that slipped out, Gale thought, hitting the back of his head against the door. Approximately fifteen minutes passed before Archibald could be seen walking up the corridor, some clothes neatly folded over his arm. Gale groaned as he saw the humorous smile on Archibald's face. "Here you are, sir, nightwear and clothing for the morrow, collected from her dormitory." He smiled, handing the pile to Gale. Gale responded with a nod before opening the mind link. "Not a word about what I called her, ok" He said, trying to sound assertive, although the smile on his face told a different story. "My lips are sealed, Alpha heir," Archibald replied. The duo nodded to one another before turning away. Archibald paced down the corridor, placing his arms behind his back as he walked. Gale rolled his eyes before re-entering the room. While Gale was outside, Lauressa stripped down slowly to examine the damage to her body from the day as she twirled in the mirror. Cain had given her a couple of good bruises, but nothing permanent. She turned on the shower, allowing steam to fill the room and causing her reflection to vanish. Satisfied with the temperature, she stepped inside. Gale was right in saying that there were toiletries, everything from shampoos to lotions to perfumes had been lined up along the counter. The hot water cascaded over her body, relieving the pain in her joints and washing away her hurt from the day. She stood in the stream as her mind began to wander, she had to become a warrior, it's all she wanted, all she had worked for. While constructing a new course of action in her mind, assessing possible scenarios that may occur, she heard a knock at the door. "I have pyjamas when you're ready," Gale called out. Lauressa shouted a thank you back to him before concluding her shower. She reached for one of the towels on the rail, which felt warm to the touch. The towel itself was soft, with long and fuzzy fibres. She pulled the towel from its rail and let it unfold, with the material continuing to unravel before her. The towel was huge. Lauressa smiled widely as she whipped it around her body, securing it above her breasts. She twirled in the mirror as it began to clear, watching the towel flare at the sides. Another knock came from the door. "Laurie?" It was Gale, Lauressa had almost forgotten he was there. "Oop, sorry!" She said, scooting over to the door and unlocking it. She opened the door slightly, meeting Gale's concerned expression, which melted away upon seeing her. She extended her arm and took the clothes from his hands before shutting the door slowly again. Not before Gale caught a glimpse of her reflection in the mirror. The towel clung to her curves, shaping her body perfectly. Gale's wolf howled, trying to force its human forward. Gale relented though, pushing his hands against the doorframe to not be forced inside. Once the door was shut, he let out an aspirated breath of relief. His wolf was running a riot inside his mind as it begged to be released. Distracted by his mind, he didn't notice Lauressa had opened the door again. She jumped when she saw he was still there. He smiled at her weakly, moving aside to let her out. Dumb wolf, he thought. Lauressa made her way to the bed, placing her new clothes on the cabinet beside it before climbing under the covers. Gale joined at her side, tucking the duvet around his body before leaning down to kiss her lips. She shot her hand up, resulting in him kissing her fingers. He furrowed his brows at her. "Perhaps a little too soon for that," she said, pulling her hand away. His wolf whimpered, wanting to embrace their mate with as many kisses as he could muster, but Gale pushed it to the back of his mind. "I accept that," he replied, kissing her forehead instead. He went to pull away, but her soft fingers caught his arm instead. "Could you stay on the sofa, please? This is just a new place and all." She was embarrassed by her tone. "Of course, Laurie," he replied, kissing her head before he left. "Night," she said. "Goodnight," he replied, flicking the switch off as he went.
