Mia couldn't shake the feeling of unease that had settled over her since Marissa's rescue. She knew that the danger was still out there, and that it was only a matter of time before it caught up with them.
As she entered her apartment, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched. She scanned the room, but there was no one there. She shrugged it off and headed to bed, hoping that a good night's sleep would help her shake off the anxiety.
The next day, Mia woke up to a knock on her door. She groggily made her way to the front door, her mind still fuzzy from sleep.
When she opened the door, she was surprised to find a man standing there. He was tall and well-dressed, with an air of confidence that made Mia feel uneasy.
"Can I help you?" she asked, her voice shaking slightly.
The man smiled thinly. "I'm here to offer you a job," he said. "A very lucrative job, I might add."
Mia was taken aback. "I'm not interested," she said, closing the door.
But the man persisted, and over the next few days, he continued to show up at Mia's apartment, always with a new offer. At first, she ignored him, but as the days wore on, she began to feel a sense of curiosity. What was this job he was offering? And why did he seem so intent on getting her to accept it?
Finally, after a week of persistent offers, Mia relented. She agreed to meet the man at a restaurant in the city to discuss the job.
As she arrived at the restaurant, she couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. The man was already there, and as she approached the table, she could see the glint of something metallic in his hand.
Before she could react, he lunged at her, the knife flashing in the dim light of the restaurant. Mia dodged out of the way, her heart racing.
"What the hell is going on?" she shouted, backing away from the man.
He grinned at her, his eyes wild. "You shouldn't have meddled in our affairs," he said. "We had a deal, and you broke it."
Mia's mind raced. What deal was he talking about? And how was she involved?
Before she could ask any more questions, the man lunged at her again, the knife flashing in the air. Mia ducked and weaved, trying to avoid the deadly blade.
Suddenly, there was a loud bang, and the man crumpled to the ground. Mia looked up to see a police officer standing there, his g*n drawn.
"Are you okay?" he asked, helping her to her feet.
Mia nodded, her mind racing. What had just happened? Who was the man, and what deal had they made?
As she sat in the back of the police car, she couldn't shake the feeling of betrayal. Someone had set her up, and she had no idea who it could be.
Little did she know, the answer was closer than she ever could have imagined.
