Chapter 4 (Seattle, Monday, September 22, 2013) JANET WAS TENSE AND quiet the next morning at the newspaper. Haunted, Mac thought. He got his work done quietly. He wasn’t alone in noticing Janet’s mood. The whole newsroom was quieter than normal. Something was wrong, and the reporters could sense it. The fact that they didn’t know what the trouble was, only made them more anxious. If Janet noticed that the newsroom was reacting to her distress, she gave no sign of it.
