The Shift: 2006

They walked the path to the ceremony grounds, meeting Alpha Blackwood, he smiled with pride as he saw who showed up first. “Your father would be proud’. He stated to Kalmin and put his hand on Ethan’s shoulder, “Be strong my boy, you’re the future” he stated to Ethan. “Stay hydrated and eat while you wait”. He pointed to the round table behind him filled with food and drinks. They both grabbed a bottle of grape Gatorade and a chicken leg and sat down on a tree stump. Every ten minutes, a classmate would show up and they too go to the table and grab a drink and piece of meat. The last to show up was Anna, who dressed up in a short black skirt and a yellow halter. She grabs a pink Gatorade and a sausage link. Soon, Luna comes down the trial dressed in an oversized shirt, she hands the boys shorts and the girls t-shirts and short shorts. She took the girls on another path to change, and the boys changed in the other direction. After ten more minutes, they came back to the ceremony grounds. Alpha Blackwood started to speak as he heard the wind blow between the tall grass and trees. “The moon is almost at its highest peak. The hour is upon us. Follow me.” he walks them to an open field shaped like a big circle, “Now line up around the circle, close your eyes and breathe through your change. Do not hold your breath”. All the pups followed suit. At eight thirty p.m. the wind picks up and all the pups eyes change to median grey color. While Kalmin and Ethan eyes turn a bright silver, the moon reached its highest peak alpha Blackwood and Luna's eyes change to a bright grey, veins began to show and their teeth began to protrude. He kept his heart beating slow so he could suppress his change a little longer, while Luna changes into her medium dark brown wolf with red highlights.

She releases her pheromones, calming the pups around her, she then walks to the middle of the circle. One by one, each pup change and they walked to the middle where the Luna was standing waiting for them. The only two that didn’t change immediately were Kalmin and Ethan, their bones were cracking loudly as both boys screams out in pain. They both lay down on the ground as Alpha Blackwood shouts out, “Breath boys”, as he too could no longer suppress his wolf. He gets down on all fours and changed into his extra-large black wolf that had grey patches with bright grey eyes. He walks up to both boys and licks Kalmin first, who gets on his knees, and then Ethan, who takes his hand and rubs his head. “I’m alright dad” he says. He screams again as his bones crack loudly again. Alpha Blackwood nudges Ethan to get on his side. As Ethan turns over, he screams out until it started to sound like a howl, the aura around the forest changes. It was so heavy and strong all the pups bowed down, including the Luna and Alpha Blackwood. Ethan howls again, which assisted Kalmin in his shift. Kalmin Wolf is a large grey wolf with a white patch over his ears and belly, with medium silver eyes. He bows down next to Ethan's body, awaiting his shift. Ethan’s bones cracks one more time and he howls, enveloping the whole area, reaching the pack neighborhood, alerting the pack who quickly came running and they too bowed. Ethan's form changes into an extra-large all-white wolf with bright silver eyes. His aura illuminating, letting them all know royalty was in their presence. Alpha Blackwood was proud, but he dared not to move until Ethan moved. Ethan howls again and takes off running. The pack howls in return and joins in the run.

Sunrise came at six-forty-two in the morning. The warmth of the sun's light slowly rises as it beams down on the pack. Ethan and Kalmin were lying next to each other sleeping soundly, Alpha Blackwood and Luna woke up before everyone. Alpha Blackwood woke up his Beta, his Gamma and the cook so they could go get some clothes for the men and boys while the cook could get the packs breakfast ready. Luna woke up her Beta and Gamma to get some clothes for the women and girls and Omega to help the cook. About Eight a.m. everyone else was up, they shifted and ran back to the ceremony grounds where their clothes were waiting for them. And breakfast was on the table waiting, after getting dressed and washing their hands in the lake. Everyone sat down and celebrated their future in this generation.

Pretty soon, their Allies Night Wolves. The Evermane and the Oak Hounds pack were excited to have such a strong group on their side as allies. As well as their enemies, the Demonhide. The Wildcrest and the Bloodmoon pack from the outskirts, or deadlands, who were not happy about this fact. Alpha Blackwood kept Ethan and Kalmin behind after everyone finished their breakfast, “Boys, now that we know your royalty, you need to start your training. Mentally and physically, you're not ready. As of right now, you have targets on your back, and you can’t protect yourselves. Look at yourselves. Your aura is literally pouring out of your body. Only hard work and training can change that”. Ethan's eyes changed a color, for he was starting to get frustrated that they had to train today. He felt like his first shift took a lot out of him. Alpha Blackwood spotted the change, then he stated, “You’ll start your training tomorrow; you boys go rest today”. Ethan calmed down and he and Kalmin walked back to the house and crashed on the living room sofa. Later that day, Alpha Blackwood called for a meeting about expanding security to protect the boys and called on Brady about the boys' training regime.
