LIAM Oh Jesus, perhaps it was just an expression. I wanted to believe that when she put her hands over her mouth, fish slime and all, in an effort to shove the hurtful words back inside. She was referring to my behavior. Not the way I looked. Right? It was just a figure of speech. Still, my stupid heart ached with grief. I couldn’t speak and must have looked like a buffalo with an arrow piercing my eye, stunned, still alive, but mortally wounded.
