CH.5 Moving Out

1060 Words
I opened my eyes slowly and found myself in my room, Lucas sitting beside me, holding my hand and gently combing my hair with his other hand. I immediately pulled my hand away from his, feeling disgusted. He didn’t say anything, but I could sense his confusion. He stared into my eyes apologetically and said, “I’m sorry, I know I was stupid and…” I cut him off, “Stop it.” There was no way I was going to listen to his apology for his betrayal. “Get out of here!” I shouted, my voice loud enough to cause pain in my throat. He stared at me in shock and stammered, “Honey, I… I can’t.” “Don’t dare to call me honey! I’m not your f*****g honey. Leave me alone!” I yelled, tears of disappointment, despair, and shock streaming down my cheeks uncontrollably. I hated him at this moment to the sky and back. I hated my stupid heart. I couldn’t see anything around me, just his guilty face. I didn’t even notice Mella and Zaak standing at the door, hearing and watching everything. When he didn’t leave, I grabbed the nearest thing beside me, which was our wedding photo framed on the nightstand, and threw it at him. He avoided it, and it smashed beside his feet. In shock, he left my room and took the kids with him. I guess he slept in the guest room that night. I don’t know how or when I fell asleep. I woke up to the sound of small knocks on the door, as I had locked it from the inside. I didn’t reply. I knew it was him, and I didn’t want to talk to him or see his face. “Naya, please. Open the door and let’s talk.” “Naya, darling. I’m so worried about you. Please open the door and you can tell me whatever you want.” “Go away, Lucas. The time to talk is over for me. Now it’s time for actions!” I said in a low voice he didn’t hear clearly. “Honey, did you say something? Please talk to me.” I ignored him. He kept sitting there all morning until I heard the twins’ footsteps. “Daddy! What did you do to Mommy? Why is she so mad at you?” Mella’s voice chimed in. He sighed, “She’s not mad. She’s just a little sad, and I’ll make her happy soon. Go and eat your breakfast.” Despite everything, Lucas was a great father. I know he cares about our kids so much. From the first day they were born, we promised ourselves that we would make them live the loving, happy life they deserve. Suddenly, his phone rang, and I heard him talking, but I couldn’t hear the person on the other side of the line. “Naya, babe. I have to go to work on an urgent matter, and I won’t be late. I hope by then you have calmed down and we can talk.” he said, and then I heard his footsteps walk away. I didn’t bother to expect more from him. He always considered work to be number one in his life, even in a crucial situation affecting our relationship and our family like this. I stood by the window, watching him leave. Once he drove out of the villa gate, I opened my room door and called, “Mella, Zaak. Come.” I heard their footsteps as they walked upstairs, running, and I grabbed two big suitcases. “Yes, Mommy?” Zaak asked. “You two, take this suitcase and fill it with whatever you think you need,” I ordered. “Why? Are we going on vacation?” Zaak asked. “No, stupid. She’s leaving Dad,” Mella said, her lips quivering, almost about to start crying. I turned to them, and my heart tightened. I didn’t want them to live through this moment. Why, Lucas, did you do this to us? I bent down to their level and said calmly, “I’m not leaving Daddy, nor you. We’re just going to visit Granny for a couple of days. Didn’t you say you love her cookies?” “Yeah, but I don’t want to leave Daddy. I love him.” Mella insisted. “I know, honey. And he loves you so much. Come on now, go and pick up everything you think you’ll need.” The twins headed to their room, not in high spirits. I was almost finished when Mrs. Perkins entered my room and said, “Ma’am, Miss Fletcher is here, and she said she wants to see you.” Jane? What the hell did she want now? When I went downstairs, she was still standing behind the door. Once she saw me, she asked, “Can we talk?” then glared at Mrs. Perkins and added, “In private.” “Follow me,” I said coldly. Once we entered Lucas’s study, she stared at me and said, “I didn’t think I would find you still here. I thought you had some dignity and left Lucas for good. But it seems you need to hear it out loud from me. Lucas doesn’t love you; he married you in the first place because you manipulated him that night in the club five years ago. You lied about your age to sleep with him, then you made yourself pregnant. The old style of the gold diggers!” “And why are you telling me this? Because you’re his friend? Stop pretending. I knew from the very beginning you loved him and wanted to take me out of your way.” “So what? He was mine until you came and stole him from me!” she hissed. “You were there all his life. If he wanted you, why didn’t he take you?” She approached me and tapped my shoulder with her finger, saying through gritted teeth, “You know what? Lucas only stayed with you out of fear that you would claim half of his wealth if he divorced you. Once his company got through this year, he would divorce you immediately.” I slapped her across the face, and her necklace rolled down under the sofa, but neither of us noticed it.
