As we walked up to her house, I began to fidget with my hands. I'm nervous honestly. My first interview on my own. What do I say? Can I get her to tell us the missing pieces? Kaleb knocked on the door and rang the doorbell. We stood outside waiting for a response and all of a sudden, we hear a faint female voice through the door. A woman opened the door.
" Oh hello there, how can I help you", Maria said. Maria wore a pretty light pink robe and grey slippers. Her pale skin was complemented by her brown hair with many grey streaks and her green eyes. I smile at her.
" Hi Maria, sorry if we are intruding but we are students working on Kaitlyn Marie's case. We would like to ask you a few questions, if you don't mind," I said glancing at Kaleb and then looking back at her. She nodded her head in hesitation and waved us into her home. She look us in her living room and we sat on the chairs cross from the couch she carefully placed herself onto.
" So can you tell us what happened the night of the murder from the argument? ", Kaleb said to Maria. Maria nodded and took a deep breath.
" Both Kait and Sammie came in the house yelling. The boys were already upstairs on the far side of the house sleep. Ay, dios mio. It was a very ugly thing to hear. Sammie had caught her dancing at one of his places and he did no like it. Senor called her terrible things and she try to make senor understand why she did it. But he did no listen to her. So she carried her boys out and left the house. After she left, he began to drink and told me to leave the house. But before I left I noticed that there was a car that did no belong to senor in the garage, " Marie said. Her english seemed a little less than understandable but I still got what she said.
" And am I right to believe that you haven't went to court to testify that Kaitlyn didn't do it because you were under their protection? That they allowed you a job that paid so you wouldn't get deported?", I asked with a concerned yet stern look on my face. She nodded. After we asked a few more unimportant questions we thanked her for her time and left for the firm. The car ride back was silent. I guess both of us were too busy trying to think of a way to get her to testify without risk of deportation,
When we got to the firm, an idea popped into my head. I ran inside to find Professor Belle in her office.
" I was right. Maria was under the protection of the Marie's. There's a way to get her testimony in without a risk of her and her children's deportation."
" And what do you suggest we do Ms.Harper?"
" We can have them apply for citizenship. They are very much eligible since they have lived in the U.S for more than 2.5-5 years. If they are successful applicants, they could receive LPR status, which allows them to apply for U.S. citizenship. It's the safest way."
Professor Belle nodded her head in approval. I felt accomplished. She stood up and walked into the room where the others were back from their adventures with new information.
" Any leads?" , she asked with her arms crossed. Aalayah stood up with a picture of a wealthy looking man.
" Turns out that our beloved CEO, David Boundy had a physical altercation with Sammie not long ago at his vicinity. Boundy is our defendants lover. People present at the scene said that Boundy confronted Sammie drunk and threatened to kill him if he ever tried to take Kaitlyn from him. When Sammie told him that he was no good for his sister, Boundy punched Sammie and was arrested that night. He was bailed out by an unknown person, i couldn't figure out who", Aalayah said pridefully as she handed her notes to Professor like she was to read them.
" Good, so we have a possible suspect and a motive. Now we just need something to pin him to the time of the murder", said Professor Belle as it looked like she was scrambling ideas in her head.
" Well, the nanny Maria did say that after Kaitlyn left the house with the boys and she was just about to leave, she noticed a car hidden in the shadow of the garage that didn't belong to neither of them. It's possible it could be Boundy's car," Kaleb announced with intrigue. It makes sense. Boundy was worried that Sammie would convince Kaitlyn that he was no good for her. So he went to his house late at night and strangled him to death.
" Neighbors said that they did see his car leave his house right before the time of the murder" Jaiden remarked as he ran his fingers through his slick hair. Everyone looked at Professor Belle, awaiting the next words that would come out her mouth.
" Get some good night rest. We have a case to win tomorrow", she smiled and turned back into her office. We all took a breath of relief that the day was over and exited the house. Kaleb offered me a ride home. I lived alone in a big 2 floor house and at times it was lonely. So I offered Kaleb with a little sleepover and he agreed.
We got inside and I took my shower. My dry curls transformed into wet waves. When I was done, I patted my hair down and threw on a big white T with some grey shorts. Kaleb went in after me. We then sat down on the couch with snacks, some wine and started talking.
" I mean think about it. Crazy Lover kills the brother just to be able to keep her all to himself? That totally sounds like a Lifetime Movie. It's a classic case of a crime of Passion and slight voluntary manslaughter...i find it romantic in a way", I joked as my head rested on my hand and I took a sip of my glass of wine.
" So if I killed someone for you just because I wanted you all to myself without any complications, you would find that romantic", Kaleb smirked, glazing into my eyes. I giggled.
" Who knows? Maybe you should try it and see how it works out for ya," I teased as I turned on the television. Kaleb laid down on the sectional and i couldn't fit. So he scooted to the backseat of the couch and let me lay in front of him with his arm draped around me. After we watched some cartoons, we fell asleep just like that. In his arms.
